Acoustic foam is vital for any room in which music is to be recorded, rehearsed, mixed or edited. In a control room the room has to be free of distortion so that the signal can be judged accurately. In a live room, vocal booth or recording room the sound waves in the room have to be brought under control and effective balanced acoustic foam is required to achieve the best results. The room without acoustic treatment will be very reflective. If there are no surfaces in the room where sound waves are absorbed then the results of the recordings will be out of control. By installing acoustic foam the 'liveness' of the room can be brought under control and the response of the room can improved. Use of acoustic treatment is the only way you can tell if what you are recording, editing, mixing or monitoring is accurate as well as not too affected by the room you are in. Acoustic tiles are needed for room treatments but this isn't the end of the story. The acoustic tiles will absorb the mid and top end of the frequency range but you also need to treat the low end frequency. Low end frequencies are stronger and longer than mid and high end frequencies and so it takes more mass to absorb these stronger frequencies. The only way to effectively treat low end frequencies is with the installation of effective bass traps. The most common placement for bass traps is the corners. This is because low end frequencies tend to congregate in the corners. Sound can be 6-12dB louder in a corner than in any part of a room and this is why we insist on the installation of bass traps in the corners. The wider the bass traps the lower they can absorb to. Standard bass traps are usually 12" wide but these bass traps can't absorb the very low frequencies. This is why we introduced the MAXXX Bass Trap. This has a width of 24" creating a larger area for the low and very low frequencies to be trapped.
