The Advanced Acoustics Acousti-Slab Acoustic Panel is a very versatile panel.  The foam can be easily cut and trimmed to size with a knife.  So if you are building custom enclosures and you wish to line the cabinet with acoustic foam then the Acousti-Slab is the ideal product.  Alternatively if you want to make your own acoustic panels you can choose to have acoustic panels mounted onto 6mm MDF so that you can hang them as panels on the wall saving you having to glue the panels directly onto the wall.  If you want to you can also wrap them in cloth to make your own fabric wrapped acoustic panels.  As long as you use an open weave cloth such as a linen or cotton you will not inhibit the performance of the panels.

These Acousti-Slab Acoustic Panels come in standard thicknesses of 3” with a standard size of 24” by 48”.  We also have available Acousti-Slab Acoustic Panels which are 1”, 2” and 4” thick.  However if you require custom thicknesses or custom sizes we can cut the acoustic foam to suit your needs.  The Acousti-Slab is a very cost effective form of acoustic treatment and has a wide range of applications and it also has the effective absorption you come to expect from Advanced Acoustics.

The acoustic foam we use conforms to the more stringent fire tests of Crib 5 and Schedule 1, Part 1 of the Furnishings and Furniture Regulations so you will have peace of mind that the product you are using is safe also.  And you also have our guarantee that the foam will stand the test of time.  The colour we use has been carefully selected to ensure that it doesn't quickly discolour or fade over time.  You won't have the problem of the foam crumbling and turning to dust either.  We know that treating your studio is a big investment and we want to make sure that your investment stands the test of time.  The only way to ensure that is by sticking with Advanced Acoustics.  We have many years of experience in acoustic treatment and soundproofing.  Acoustic Treatment and Soundproofing are the only products we deal with.  You won't see us selling any other forms of foam or bedding.  Acoustic foam is all we do and we are very good at it as our outstanding feedback and previous customers will testify.  Our products have been used by a full host of companies including the BBC, Williams F1 Team, McLaren, Cisco, Cadburys and ITN just to mention a few.

Why You Need Acoustic Foam

Acoustic foam is probably the most important aspect of any studio. It can either make or break a professional or project studio. It doesn't matter how much is spent on recording and monitoring equipment. If the room itself is not treated to its optimum the results will never be as good as they could be. Rooms have their own sound already within the room. While the sound is travelling around the room it will come into contact with different surfaces and other sound waves moving around the room. This means that the room can suffer from a lot of acoustic problems.

These could include;

  • reflections,
  • reverberation,
  • slap echo,
  • flutter echo,
  • poor frequency response,
  • standing waves,
  • boom,
  • and modal problems.

While all these frequencies are bouncing around, clashing into each other the sound waves can change. This totally affects the end result for the negative. You will start off with one sound and end up with another in the recordings. If no acoustic treatment is installed in the studio the reverberation can be so long that practice sessions can be a chore and not a pleasure. Recording will be difficult to control and mixing will be difficult to master. When recording or trying to monitor a recording you want to take the room out of the mix, it needs to be controlled. What you really want and need to hear is the source, whether you are recording or monitoring. What you don't want is the room telling you what to hear and what to record. Imagine the room as a big instrument. If that instrument is not tuned correctly you will only hear an out of tune room, not a room that works in harmony with the recording or sound.

If there are no surfaces in the room where sound waves are absorbed then the results of the recordings will be out of control. By installing acoustic foam the liveliness of the room can be brought under control and the response of the room can be improved. Use of acoustic treatment is the only way you can tell if what you are recording, editing, mixing or monitoring is accurate. Whether you want the room controlled or completely dead, acoustic treatment is the only way to tame the beast that is your room and keep it under control.
