Our Essential Concrete Floor Soundproofing System – Loose Lay LVT & Laminate is a practical upgrade for concrete floors where you want to reduce impact noise such as footfall and general vibration and achieve a modest improvement in airborne noise. This system combines 10kg MLV with 3mm Terrac Underlayment, a structural overlay (18mm STS TG4), and a final acoustic layer of 3mm Terrac Underlay, suitable for loose lay and floating floor finishes. 

To make things easier, our online calculator works out the quantities required for your project, with an additional 5% already allowed for waste.

Designed for Concrete Floors with Loose Lay / Floating Finishes 

Concrete floors are already relatively good for airborne sound compared to timber floors, but they can still transmit impact noise very effectively. Our Essential Concrete Floor Soundproofing System – Loose Lay LVT & Laminate is designed primarily to reduce impact noise and improve acoustic comfort, while remaining a practical DIY-friendly build-up for loose lay LVT and laminate/floating floors.

The build-up consists of:

  • 1 layer of 10kg MLV (Soundproofing Mat)
  • 3mm Terrac Underlayment
  • 18mm STS TG4 Acoustic Floorboard
  • 3mm Terrac  Underlay for the top layer
  • Everbuild AC95 Acoustic Sealant 
  • Jointing Tape 
  • Contact Adhesive

The finished build-up is approximately 29mm overall.

How the System Works 

This system combines mass and impact isolation:

  • 10kg MLV adds mass to help reduce sound transmission
  • 3mm Terrac (lower layer) helps reduce impact noise and provides an acoustic layer beneath the overlay
  • 18mm STS TG4 creates a stable overlay deck for the finished floor build-up
  • 3mm Terrac (top layer) improves acoustic comfort under floating floor finishes
  • Acoustic Sealant and Jointing Tape help reduce sound leakage through joints and perimeter gaps

Installation Summary

  3. Install 3mm Terrac

  6. Tape joints and seal perimeter gaps with AC95 where required
  7. Fit loose lay LVT / laminate floating floor as normal
