1" SoundControl Ceiling Suspended Acoustic Panel 2ft × 3ft | 610 × 915mm | NRC 0.75 | Class C

The Advanced Acoustics 1" SoundControl Ceiling Suspended Acoustic Panel is a fabric-wrapped acoustic panel designed to hang from the ceiling on steel wire rope, suspending the panel below the ceiling surface. The suspended format treats reverberation from both faces of the panel simultaneously, increasing the effective absorption per panel relative to a surface-mounted installation of the same size. The panel consists of a 31mm Class '0' open-cell acoustic foam core wrapped in an open-weave polyester fabric, mounted on a rigid backing board with suspension fixings for wire rope hanging. The fabric wrap is available in 31 colours.

The 2ft × 3ft (610 × 915mm) format provides 0.56m² of panel face area — 50% more than the 2ft × 2ft format — reducing the number of panels and suspension points required to achieve the target coverage area. The portrait format is well suited to suspended installations where panels are arranged in rows along the length of a room, or where the ceiling grid layout favours a taller, narrower panel. The 1" thickness achieves NRC 0.75 (Sound Absorption Class C); the suspended format increases effective absorption by exposing both panel faces to the room.

Applications

  • High-ceiling spaces where surface fixing is impractical. Suspended panels are the appropriate specification for spaces with high, vaulted, or structurally complex ceilings where direct surface fixing is not feasible. Wire rope suspension allows panels to be hung at an appropriate height within the room, bringing acoustic absorption closer to the occupied zone where it is most effective.
  • Open-plan offices — reverberation and echo control. Suspended panels treat reverberation from both faces simultaneously, making them more efficient per panel than surface-mounted equivalents. The 2ft × 3ft format is suited to row arrangements along the length of open-plan spaces, providing efficient coverage with fewer suspension points than the 2ft × 2ft format.
  • Meeting rooms and conference spaces. Suspended panels above a meeting table or conference area provide targeted absorption directly over the primary speech zone, improving speech intelligibility for both in-room participants and remote attendees in video conferencing applications.
  • Spaces with exposed structural ceilings. In spaces with exposed concrete, steel, or timber structural ceilings, surface-mounted fixing may not be appropriate. Wire rope suspension from structural elements allows panels to be installed without surface fixing, providing acoustic absorption in spaces where a surface-mounted installation would not be possible.
  • Educational environments — classrooms and lecture spaces. Suspended panels above the primary teaching area provide targeted absorption at the ceiling plane. The 2ft × 3ft format is suited to row arrangements across standard classroom widths, providing efficient coverage per suspension point.

Product Benefits

  • NRC 0.75 — effective mid and high frequency absorption. The 1" (31mm) foam core achieves NRC 0.75 (Sound Absorption Class C), with strong absorption from 500Hz upward: 0.65 at 500Hz, 0.94 at 1000Hz, 1.13 at 2000Hz, and 0.99 at 4000Hz. The suspended format exposes both panel faces to the room, increasing effective absorption relative to a surface-mounted installation. Low-frequency absorption is more limited (0.30 at 250Hz); where low-frequency control is also required, the 2" SoundControl Ceiling Suspended panel is the appropriate specification.
  • Class '0' fire-rated foam core — compliant for commercial use. The acoustic foam core is Class '0' rated to BS 476 Parts 6 and 7, and C s1, d0 to EN 13501-1, meeting commercial fire safety requirements for suspended acoustic treatment in offices, schools, and public buildings.
  • Open-weave polyester fabric wrap — 31 colour options. The open-weave polyester fabric allows sound to pass through to the foam core without significant attenuation, maintaining full acoustic performance across the entire colour range. Available in 31 colours — download the swatch card for the full range.
  • Wire rope suspension — compatible with Advanced Acoustics suspension components. Designed for use with the Advanced Acoustics 1.5mm steel wire rope and loop clamp suspension components, available separately. Wire rope suspension allows panel height to be adjusted during installation and provides a clean, minimal fixing detail.
  • 2ft × 3ft format — efficient suspended coverage. At 0.56m² per panel face, the 2ft × 3ft provides 50% more coverage than the 2ft × 2ft, making it an efficient choice for suspended installations where fewer suspension points are preferred and the ceiling layout accommodates the longer panel dimension.
  • Handmade in the UK — consistent quality across every panel. All SoundControl panels are handmade in the Advanced Acoustics UK facility using consistent materials and construction methods, ensuring uniform acoustic performance and finish quality across every panel in an installation.

Please note: All SoundControl panels are made to order with a 2–3 week lead time. Suspension components (wire rope and loop clamps) are available separately.

Installation

Determine the desired suspension height and cut the wire rope to the appropriate length, allowing for the loop clamp fixing at the ceiling and the panel attachment point. Ensure ceiling fixing points are located on solid ceiling structure or appropriate noggins — do not fix into plasterboard alone without appropriate cavity fixings. Check for concealed services (electrical cables, pipework) before drilling into the ceiling.

Thread the wire rope through the loop clamp and fix the clamp to the ceiling at the marked position. Attach the wire rope to the panel suspension fixing point and adjust the panel height as required before securing the wire rope in position.

For grid installations, use a chalk line or laser level to ensure consistent alignment and equal spacing between panels. Set out all suspension points before installing any panels to ensure the grid is correctly laid out.

How Many Panels Do You Need?

Use this quick calculator to see how many panels you'll need for your room. We'll also suggest a complementary ceiling panel to complete your acoustic treatment.

Please note: This calculator provides estimates only and is intended as a guide. Advanced Acoustics cannot be held responsible for purchases made based on these calculations. For a precise recommendation tailored to your specific room, please contact us at info@advancedacoustics-uk.com.

Our Acoustic Panels are very easy to install. They are supplied with Eyebolts to loop the suspension wire onto. The suspension wire and wire clamps are sold separately and are available on our website. We don’t supply the mounting hooks for the ceiling as the correct type to use depends on the ceiling construction. We recommend you use open hooks to ease installation. If you are uncertain which type of fixing to use we can advise you. Alternatively you can check with an experienced tradesman.

The technical sheet for this product will tell you how many eyebolts are used for suspending the panels, you will require the relevant amount of ceiling hooks, lengths of wire and wire clamps.

To calculate how much suspension wire you first need to ascertain the distance the panel will be suspended. Next add on 20cm to this distance to allow for the loop of the wire at the top and bottom. Next multiply this distance by the amount of eyebolt per panel. This is the amount of suspension wire you will need for each panel. For the wire clamps you will need double the amount of wire clamps by the amount of eyebolts, this will the amount of clamps you will need per panel.

Installation

Mark on the ceiling the correct location of the ceiling hooks and fit the hooks. Fix the eyebolts to the back of the panel. Attach the wire to the eyebolts creating the loops top and bottom to the required length. Hang the panel on the installed ceiling hooks. Repeat until all panels are fitted.
