1" SoundControl Wall Mounted Acoustic Panel 2ft × 2ft | 610 × 610mm | NRC 0.75 | Class C
The Advanced Acoustics 1" SoundControl Wall Mounted Acoustic Panel is a fabric-wrapped acoustic panel designed to reduce reverberation and echo in office, commercial, and educational environments. The panel consists of a 31mm Class '0' open-cell acoustic foam core wrapped in an open-weave polyester fabric, mounted on a rigid backing board. The fabric wrap is available in 31 colours, allowing the panel to be specified to match or complement the interior scheme of the space.
The 2ft × 2ft (610 × 610mm) format provides 0.37m² of absorption per panel. It is the smallest panel in the SoundControl range, suited to targeted placement in smaller wall areas, between workstations, or in installations where a modular grid of compact panels is preferred over fewer larger panels. The 1" thickness achieves NRC 0.75 (Sound Absorption Class C), providing effective absorption of mid and high frequencies — appropriate for speech intelligibility improvement in open-plan offices, meeting rooms, and conference spaces where the primary acoustic problem is echo and reverberation at speech frequencies.
Applications
- Open-plan offices — reverberation and echo control. Install on walls to reduce reverberation time and improve speech intelligibility across the working environment. Excessive reverberation in open-plan offices increases background noise levels, reduces speech clarity, and contributes to listener fatigue. The 1" SoundControl absorbs mid and high frequency energy — the frequency range most responsible for speech-frequency reverberation — reducing the reflected sound field and improving the acoustic environment for occupants. The 2ft × 2ft format allows panels to be distributed across multiple wall surfaces to achieve even absorption coverage throughout the space.
- Meeting rooms and conference spaces. In smaller enclosed rooms, reverberation can make speech difficult to understand, particularly in video conferencing applications where microphones pick up room reflections alongside the speaker's voice. Installing 1" SoundControl panels on the walls of meeting rooms reduces reverberation time, improving speech clarity for both in-room participants and remote attendees. The compact 2ft × 2ft format is suited to meeting rooms where wall space between windows, doors, and whiteboards is limited.
- Targeted placement between workstations. The 610 × 610mm format is suited to targeted placement on wall sections directly behind or between workstations, where localised absorption is required to reduce the reflected sound reaching adjacent occupants. This approach is effective in open-plan environments where full-wall panel coverage is not practical or desired.
- Modular grid and pattern installations. The square format allows panels to be arranged in regular grids, offset patterns, or mixed with other SoundControl sizes to create a consistent visual rhythm across a wall surface while achieving the required total absorption area.
- Educational environments — classrooms and lecture spaces. Excessive reverberation in classrooms reduces speech intelligibility for students, particularly those with hearing difficulties or for whom English is a second language. The 1" SoundControl provides effective absorption of speech frequencies in educational environments, improving the acoustic conditions for learning without requiring specialist installation.
Product Benefits
- NRC 0.75 — effective mid and high frequency absorption. The 1" (31mm) foam core achieves NRC 0.75 (Sound Absorption Class C), with strong absorption from 500Hz upward: 0.65 at 500Hz, 0.94 at 1000Hz, 1.13 at 2000Hz, and 0.99 at 4000Hz. This frequency profile makes the 1" panel highly effective for controlling speech-frequency reverberation — the primary acoustic problem in most office and educational environments. Low-frequency absorption is more limited (0.30 at 250Hz); where low-frequency reverberation control is also required, the 2" SoundControl panel (NRC 1.00, 0.61 at 250Hz) is the appropriate specification.
- Class '0' fire-rated foam core — compliant for commercial use. The acoustic foam core is Class '0' rated to BS 476 Parts 6 and 7, and C s1, d0 to EN 13501-1, meeting commercial fire safety requirements for wall-mounted acoustic treatment in offices, schools, and public buildings. This fire classification is required for acoustic panels installed in commercial and public buildings in the UK and is a mandatory specification requirement for most commercial fit-out projects.
- Open-weave polyester fabric wrap — 31 colour options, acoustic performance maintained across all colours. The open-weave polyester fabric allows sound to pass through to the foam core without significant attenuation, maintaining the full NRC 0.75 performance across the entire colour range. The fabric is soft to the touch, durable, and easy to maintain. Available in 31 colours — download the swatch card for the full range.
- Three mounting options — Mirror Plate, D-Ring, or Button Fix. Supplied with mounting hardware. Mirror plate fixing provides a flush, secure wall mount suitable for permanent installations. D-ring fixing allows the panel to be hung from a picture rail or hook, suitable for installations where wall drilling is not permitted. Button Fix provides a tool-free demountable fixing, allowing panels to be removed and repositioned without tools — suitable for leased spaces or installations requiring periodic panel removal.
- Compact 2ft × 2ft format — flexible placement. The 610 × 610mm square format is the most flexible in the SoundControl range for targeted placement and modular grid installations. The compact size allows panels to be positioned in wall areas where larger formats would not fit, and makes single-person installation straightforward.
- Handmade in the UK — consistent quality across every panel. All SoundControl panels are handmade in the Advanced Acoustics UK facility using consistent materials and construction methods, ensuring uniform acoustic performance and finish quality across every panel in an installation.
Please note: All SoundControl panels are made to order with a 2–3 week lead time.
Installation
Mark the fixing positions on the wall using the panel dimensions as a guide. Ensure fixing positions are located on solid wall structure or appropriate noggins — do not fix into plasterboard alone without appropriate cavity fixings.
For mirror plate fixing: screw the mirror plate to the wall at the marked position using appropriate fixings for the wall construction, and hang the panel on the mirror plate. Check that the panel hangs level before finalising the fixing position.
For D-ring fixing: install appropriate hooks or picture rail at the marked height, ensuring the hooks are at the correct spacing to match the D-ring positions on the panel. Hang the panel and check for level.
For Button Fix: install the wall-side button fix receivers at the marked positions using appropriate fixings. Press the panel firmly onto the receivers until the button fix engages. To remove, pull the panel firmly away from the wall.
For grid installations, use a spirit level and spacers to ensure consistent alignment and equal spacing between panels across the wall surface. Mark all fixing positions before installing any panels to ensure the grid is correctly laid out.
