The Advanced Acoustics 2" SoundControl Ceiling Suspended Acoustic Panel is a fabric-wrapped acoustic panel designed to hang from the ceiling on steel wire rope, suspending the panel below the ceiling surface. The suspended format treats reverberation from both faces of the panel simultaneously, increasing the effective absorption per panel relative to a surface-mounted installation of the same size. The panel consists of a 50mm Class '0' open-cell acoustic foam core wrapped in an open-weave polyester fabric, mounted on a rigid backing board with suspension fixings for wire rope hanging. The fabric wrap is available in 31 colours.

The 2ft × 4ft (610 × 1220mm) format provides 0.74m² of panel face area — the largest format in the 2" SoundControl suspended range. The large format maximises absorption per panel and per suspension point, making it the most efficient 2" suspended specification for achieving large coverage areas with Class A performance and fewer panels. The 2" foam depth achieves NRC 1.00 (Sound Absorption Class A) — the highest absorption class — with significantly improved low-frequency performance compared to the 1" suspended panel (0.61 at 250Hz vs 0.30). The suspended format further increases effective absorption by exposing both panel faces to the room.

Applications

• High-ceiling spaces requiring maximum broadband absorption where surface fixing is impractical. The 2" 2ft × 4ft suspended panel is the highest-performance, highest-coverage format in the SoundControl suspended range. It is the appropriate specification for spaces with high, vaulted, or structurally complex ceilings where Class A broadband absorption is required and the ceiling layout can accommodate the larger panel dimension, minimising the total number of panels and suspension points needed.
• Open-plan offices — broadband reverberation control. Suspended panels treat reverberation from both faces simultaneously. The 2ft × 4ft format is suited to row arrangements along the length of larger open-plan spaces, providing maximum Class A coverage per suspension point and minimising the total number of panels and ceiling fixing points required.
• Meeting rooms and boardrooms. The 2ft × 4ft format is suited to larger meeting rooms and boardrooms where the ceiling area can accommodate the longer panel dimension. A small number of panels suspended above the meeting table can provide the required Class A absorption coverage, reducing the total number of suspension points required.
• Spaces with exposed structural ceilings. In spaces with exposed concrete, steel, or timber structural ceilings, surface-mounted fixing may not be appropriate. Wire rope suspension from structural elements allows panels to be installed without surface fixing, providing Class A absorption in spaces where a surface-mounted installation would not be possible.
• Educational environments — classrooms and lecture spaces. The 2ft × 4ft format is suited to row arrangements across the ceiling of larger classrooms and lecture theatres, providing maximum Class A coverage per suspension point across the full speech frequency range including low-mid frequencies.

• NRC 1.00 — Class A broadband absorption. The 2" (50mm) foam core achieves NRC 1.00 (Sound Absorption Class A), with strong absorption across the full speech frequency range: 0.61 at 250Hz, 1.03 at 500Hz, 1.16 at 1000Hz, 1.11 at 2000Hz, and 1.10 at 4000Hz. The significantly improved low-frequency performance at 250Hz (0.61 vs 0.30 for the 1" panel) makes the 2" panel the appropriate specification where low-mid frequency reverberation control is required. • Class '0' fire-rated foam core — compliant for commercial use. The acoustic foam core is Class '0' rated to BS 476 Parts 6 and 7, and C s1, d0 to EN 13501-1, meeting commercial fire safety requirements for suspended acoustic treatment in offices, schools, and public buildings.

Designed for use with the Advanced Acoustics 1.5mm steel wire rope and loop clamp suspension components, available separately. Wire rope suspension allows panel height to be adjusted during installation and provides a clean, minimal fixing detail.
• 2ft × 4ft format — maximum Class A coverage per suspension point. At 0.74m² per panel face, the 2ft × 4ft is the largest format in the 2" SoundControl suspended range, providing the greatest absorption coverage per suspension point and the most efficient specification for large ceiling areas requiring Class A performance.
• Handmade in the UK — consistent quality across every panel. All SoundControl panels are handmade in the Advanced Acoustics UK facility using consistent materials and construction methods, ensuring uniform acoustic performance and finish quality across every panel in an installation.

Please note: All SoundControl panels are made to order with a 2–3 week lead time. Suspension components (wire rope and loop clamps) are available separately.

Installation

Determine the desired suspension height and cut the wire rope to the appropriate length, allowing for the loop clamp fixing at the ceiling and the panel attachment point. Ensure ceiling fixing points are located on solid ceiling structure or appropriate noggins — do not fix into plasterboard alone without appropriate cavity fixings. Check for concealed services (electrical cables, pipework) before drilling into the ceiling. Due to the panel size, two people are recommended for installation.

Thread the wire rope through the loop clamp and fix the clamp to the ceiling at the marked position. Attach the wire rope to the panel suspension fixing point and adjust the panel height as required before securing the wire rope in position.

For grid installations, use a chalk line or laser level to ensure consistent alignment and equal spacing between panels. Set out all suspension points before installing any panels to ensure the grid is correctly laid out.
