The 2" SoundControl provides strong absorption from 250Hz upward — including the low-mid frequencies that the 1" panel addresses less effectively — making it the appropriate specification for spaces where reverberation at lower speech frequencies is a contributing factor to poor acoustic conditions. The 2ft × 4ft format maximises absorption per panel, making it the most efficient format for achieving large coverage areas with fewer fixing points.
• Meeting rooms and conference spaces. In smaller enclosed rooms, reverberation across the full speech frequency range can significantly impair speech intelligibility, particularly in video conferencing applications. The 2" SoundControl Panel's Class A absorption rating makes it the preferred specification for meeting rooms and boardrooms where the highest level of acoustic treatment is required. The 2ft × 4ft format is suited to larger meeting rooms and boardrooms where wall sections are uninterrupted by windows or doors.
• Large wall coverage — maximum absorption per fixing point. At 0.74m² per panel and NRC 1.00, the 2ft × 4ft 2" panel delivers the highest total absorption per fixing point of any panel in the SoundControl wall range. It is the most efficient specification for treating large wall areas where both broadband absorption and minimal installation complexity are required.
• Modular grid and pattern installations. The 2ft × 4ft format can be arranged in regular grids or combined with 2ft × 2ft and 2ft × 3ft panels to create varied visual compositions across a wall surface while achieving the required total absorption area.
• Educational environments — classrooms and lecture spaces. The 2" SoundControl provides broadband absorption across the full speech frequency range, improving acoustic conditions for students in environments where low-frequency reverberation is a contributing factor to poor speech intelligibility. The 2ft × 4ft format reduces the number of panels required to treat a classroom wall, simplifying installation.

• NRC 1.00 — Class A broadband absorption. The 2" (50mm) foam core achieves NRC 1.00 (Sound Absorption Class A), with strong absorption across the full speech frequency range: 0.61 at 250Hz, 1.03 at 500Hz, 1.16 at 1000Hz, 1.11 at 2000Hz, and 1.10 at 4000Hz. The significantly improved low-frequency performance at 250Hz (0.61 vs 0.30 for the 1" panel) makes the 2" panel the appropriate specification where low-mid frequency reverberation control is required alongside mid and high frequency absorption.
• Class '0' fire-rated foam core — compliant for commercial use. The acoustic foam core is Class '0' rated to BS 476 Parts 6 and 7, and C s1, d0 to EN 13501-1, meeting commercial fire safety requirements for wall-mounted acoustic treatment in offices, schools, and public buildings. This fire classification is required for acoustic panels installed in commercial and public buildings in the UK and is a mandatory specification requirement for most commercial fit-out projects.
• Open-weave polyester fabric wrap — 31 colour options, acoustic performance maintained across all colours. The open-weave polyester fabric allows sound to pass through to the foam core without significant attenuation, maintaining the full NRC 1.00 performance across the entire colour range. • Three mounting options — Mirror Plate, D-Ring, or Button Fix. Supplied with mounting hardware. Mirror plate fixing provides a flush, secure wall mount suitable for permanent installations. D-ring fixing allows the panel to be hung from a picture rail or hook, suitable for installations where wall drilling is not permitted. Button Fix provides a tool-free demountable fixing, allowing panels to be removed and repositioned without tools — suitable for leased spaces or installations requiring periodic panel removal.
• 2ft × 4ft format — maximum coverage and absorption per panel. At 0.74m² per panel and NRC 1.00, the 2ft × 4ft 2" panel is the highest-performance format in the SoundControl wall range, providing the greatest total absorption per fixing point and the most efficient coverage for large wall areas.
• Handmade in the UK — consistent quality across every panel. All SoundControl panels are handmade in the Advanced Acoustics UK facility using consistent materials and construction methods, ensuring uniform acoustic performance and finish quality across every panel in an installation.

Mark the fixing positions on the wall using the panel dimensions as a guide. Ensure fixing positions are located on solid wall structure or appropriate noggins — do not fix into plasterboard alone without appropriate cavity fixings.

For mirror plate fixing: screw the mirror plate to the wall at the marked position using appropriate fixings for the wall construction, and hang the panel on the mirror plate. Check that the panel hangs level before finalising the fixing position.

For D-ring fixing: install appropriate hooks or picture rail at the marked height, ensuring the hooks are at the correct spacing to match the D-ring positions on the panel. Hang the panel and check for level.

For Button Fix: install the wall-side button fix receivers at the marked positions using appropriate fixings. Press the panel firmly onto the receivers until the button fix engages. To remove, pull the panel firmly away from the wall.

For grid installations, use a spirit level and spacers to ensure consistent alignment and equal spacing between panels across the wall surface. Mark all fixing positions before installing any panels to ensure the grid is correctly laid out.

Can I install wall mounted panels myself, or do I need a contractor?

These panels are designed for straightforward self-installation. Fixing the mirror plates or Button Fix mounting requires a drill and screwdriver — the same skills needed to hang a picture frame. The main requirement is identifying the correct fixing method for your wall substrate: screws into masonry, studs, or toggle bolts for hollow plasterboard walls. If you are unsure of your wall construction, a builder or handyperson can advise.

Can I order panels in a custom size?

Yes. Custom sized panels are available across the SoundControl range. Contact us with your required dimensions and we will provide a quote. Most custom orders are straightforward modifications of the standard sizes and carry the same 2–3 week lead time. Can I see the fabric colours before I order?

A PDF swatch card showing all available fabric colours is available to download here. If you would like a physical fabric sample before committing to a colour, contact us and we will send one out. Given the 2–3 week lead time on all made-to-order panels, confirming the colour against your interior before ordering is worthwhile.

Will acoustic panels actually make a noticeable difference to our office?

In a hard-surfaced office with plasterboard walls, a solid ceiling, and a concrete or hard floor — the standard construction of most commercial fit-outs — reverberation times are typically well above the recommended level for speech intelligibility. Acoustic panels absorb the reflected energy that accumulates in those surfaces, reducing reverberation time and improving clarity. The result is a room where conversations are clearer, background noise feels less intrusive, and sustained concentration is easier. The improvement in a standard office environment is significant and immediately noticeable.
