Advanced Acoustics 3" Acousti-Slab Acoustic Foam Treatment Panel

The Advanced Acoustics Acousti-Slab 3" is a 75mm open-cell polyurethane acoustic foam panel, measuring 2ft × 4ft (610mm × 1220mm). The panel achieves NRC 1.00 (Sound Absorption Class A) — the highest rating in the Acousti-Slab range — providing comprehensive broadband absorption across the full mid and high frequency range with strong low-frequency performance. Each panel covers 0.74m² (8sqft). Available unmounted or mounted to a 6mm MDF substrate.

The unmounted panel can be fixed directly to the wall surface using contact adhesive, trimmed to size, or wrapped in open-weave fabric. The mounted panel is pre-fixed to 6mm MDF for wall hanging using mirror plates. Absorption is consistent and high across all measured frequencies: 0.83 at 250Hz, 1.09 at 500Hz, 1.07 at 1kHz, 1.08 at 2kHz, and 1.09 at 4kHz. Available in Mid Grey and Dark Grey. Manufactured in the UK.

Applications

Professional recording studios and control rooms — Class A broadband treatment.
The 3" Acousti-Slab at NRC 1.00 provides comprehensive absorption across the full mid and high frequency range, making it the appropriate specification for professional recording studios and control rooms where thorough broadband treatment is required. The 0.83 at 250Hz delivers strong low-frequency absorption that is largely absent from thinner profiles — the 2" panel achieves 0.45 at 250Hz, the 1" panel 0.20 — addressing the low-frequency reverberation and room modes that remain partially untreated with shallower foam depths. Install on the primary reflection points and extend coverage as required for the acoustic target. Use the Coverage Calculator to determine the number of panels required.

Voice-over studios and broadcast environments — maximum absorption.
Voice-over studios and broadcast environments benefit from thorough absorption across the vocal frequency range to produce clean, dry recordings with minimal room character. The 3" Acousti-Slab provides essentially complete absorption from 500Hz upward — 1.07 to 1.09 across 500Hz, 1kHz, 2kHz, and 4kHz — alongside strong 250Hz absorption that controls the low-frequency warmth and muddiness that thinner panels leave uncorrected. The Class A rating makes this the highest-performing single panel in the Acousti-Slab range for environments where the driest possible acoustic result is required.

Custom acoustic installations — Class A fabric-wrapped panels.
The unmounted 3" Acousti-Slab is the appropriate base material for custom fabric-wrapped acoustic panels where Class A performance is required. The 75mm foam depth delivers NRC 1.00 behind any acoustically transparent open-weave fabric, making it the preferred specification for high-performance fabric panel installations in professional studios, post-production facilities, and commercial spaces. Custom sizes are available on request.

Product Benefits

NRC 1.00 / Sound Absorption Class A — comprehensive broadband absorption.
The 75mm foam core achieves NRC 1.00 (Class A), with consistently high absorption across all measured frequencies: 0.83 at 250Hz, 1.09 at 500Hz, 1.07 at 1000Hz, 1.08 at 2000Hz, and 1.09 at 4000Hz. The 0.83 at 250Hz represents the strongest low-frequency performance in the Acousti-Slab range — significantly above the 2" panel (0.45) and the 1" panel (0.20) — making the 3" the appropriate specification where low-frequency reverberation alongside mid and high frequency control is the requirement. The flat, consistent absorption from 500Hz to 4kHz delivers essentially complete treatment across the primary recording and listening frequency range.

Unmounted and mounted-to-MDF formats.
The unmounted panel is bare foam suitable for direct adhesive fixing, trimming, or fabric wrapping. The mounted panel is pre-fixed to a 6mm MDF substrate for wall hanging using mirror plates. The mounted format provides a rigid, repositionable panel without the use of contact adhesive. Both formats are available in Mid Grey and Dark Grey.

Specification and compliance.
30kg/m³ foam density. Crib 5 and Schedule 1, Part 1 of the Furnishings and Furniture (Fire)(Safety) Regulations 1988 (amended 1989). Panel size 610mm × 1220mm × 75mm (2ft × 4ft × 3"). 0.74m² (8sqft) coverage per panel. 2.7kg unmounted, 6.3kg mounted. Mid Grey and Dark Grey. Custom sizes available on request. Manufactured in the UK and shipped uncompressed from stock.

Installation

Unmounted panels — adhesive fixing.
Apply Advanced Acoustics High Strength Contact Adhesive to both the back of the panel and the wall surface. Apply a band of adhesive around the perimeter and 50–75% coverage of the remaining surface area; repeat on the wall. Allow to become touch-dry before bringing surfaces together — contact adhesive bonds on contact, so position the panel carefully before pressing it to the wall. The adhesive is solvent-based; ensure adequate ventilation throughout installation.

Unmounted panels — demountable installation.
For a temporary or demountable installation, mount the panel onto 6mm MDF or plywood sheet and hang using D-rings and picture hooks. For ceiling-mounted panels, use four mirror plates per panel. This allows panels to be removed and repositioned without damage to the wall surface.

Mounted-to-MDF panels.
Fix mirror plates to the wall at the appropriate centres using suitable fixings for the wall substrate. Hang the panel on the mirror plates. The mounted panel can be removed and rehung without tools.

Performance Data

3" Acousti-Slab Acoustic Foam Panel

Installing our acoustic foam panels is very simple. The first step to take is to work out your preferred layout of acoustic panels. Do a sketch on paper first to make sure that the layout looks right and you have enough acoustic foam and space for your planned design.

Once the acoustic panels are mounted to the wall or ceiling they are hard to remove so it is important to get the layout right before you begin. Once you have a sketch of the layout you plan you can then mark up the wall with the layout. You can either use pencil, masking tape or lasers to layout the design on the wall or ceiling.

When mounting the acoustic panels to the wall apply Advanced Acoustics Contact Adhesive to both the back of the panel and the mounting surface. There is no need to heavily cover the acoustic foam or wall with adhesive, a band of adhesive around the perimeter of the tile along with 50% - 75% coverage of the rest of the acoustic panel will be fine. Use the same equivalent amount on the wall. Avoid overspray on the tile and the wall so that adhesive can’t be seen when the panels are in place. Masking Tape on the wall will help with this. If you do get webbing overspray on the foam panel, don’t touch it, allow it to dry, in most cases you will be able to peel the adhesive off.

The adhesive we supply is solvent based so we recommend that you keep all doors of the room and any windows open whilst completing the installation.

If you prefer to have a more temporary installation of acoustic panels there is the option to have the panels pre-mounted onto 6mm MDF. This will enable you to hang the panels on the wall using a D-Ring (not supplied) and picture hook for a damage free installation. If fitting them to a ceiling then 4 mirror plates (not supplied) would be required.
