Norsound NOR710 Retro Fit Door Head & Jamb Seal | PVC | Dual Air Pocket | 10 × 10mm
The NOR710 is a self-adhesive head and jamb seal designed for retrofit installation around the perimeter of doorsets to provide acoustic sealing and smoke control. The seal uses a dual air pocket construction — two enclosed air chambers within the flexible PVC profile — which functions analogously to triple glazing, trapping air within the seal body to improve sound attenuation beyond what a single-layer gasket can achieve. The dual air pocket profile compresses against the door face when the door closes, forming a continuous seal around the door perimeter. The seal is unaffected by standard door furniture including hinges and latches, and has been cycle tested to 1,000,000 opening and closing cycles, confirming long-term durability under high-traffic conditions.
The NOR710 is manufactured from flexible and rigid PVC, supplied in four colours — black, brown, white, and grey — to suit a range of door and frame finishes. The housing profile is 10 × 10mm. Available in two standard lengths — 2100mm and 3000mm. Smoke tested in accordance with BS 476 Part 31:1 and acoustically tested in accordance with BS EN ISO 10140-2. The self-adhesive fixing requires no screws or drilling, making it the simplest installation option in the Norsound head and jamb seal range.
Applications
- Door head and jamb sealing — acoustic and smoke control — fix to the door frame stop at the head and both jambs to create a continuous perimeter seal around the door leaf. The dual air pocket profile compresses against the door face on closing, providing both acoustic attenuation and smoke sealing at the door perimeter. The NOR710 is the appropriate choice where smoke sealing to BS 476 Part 31:1 is required in addition to acoustic performance, and where a self-adhesive installation is preferred over a screw-fixed solution.
- High-traffic doorsets — the 1,000,000 cycle test confirms the NOR710 maintains its sealing performance under sustained high-traffic use. The dual air pocket profile recovers consistently after compression, maintaining seal integrity over the service life of the installation without requiring replacement of the gasket.
- Retrofit installation — no drilling required — the self-adhesive backing allows the NOR710 to be applied directly to the door frame stop without drilling or screwing, making it suitable for retrofit applications where drilling into the frame is not desirable or where the frame material is not suited to screw fixing.
- Colour-matched to door and frame finishes — available in black, brown, white, and grey, the NOR710 can be selected to match or complement the door leaf and frame finish, minimising the visual impact of the seal on the doorset.
Product Benefits
- Dual air pocket construction — enhanced acoustic attenuation. The two enclosed air chambers within the PVC profile trap air within the seal body, providing a higher level of sound attenuation than a single-layer gasket of equivalent cross-section. The dual air pocket principle is analogous to the acoustic benefit of triple glazing over double glazing — each additional air layer increases the resistance to sound transmission through the seal.
- Smoke tested to BS 476 Part 31:1 — acoustic tested to BS EN ISO 10140-2. The NOR710 meets smoke sealing requirements under BS 476 Part 31:1 and has been acoustically tested in accordance with BS EN ISO 10140-2, making it suitable for doorsets where both smoke control and acoustic performance are required.
- 1,000,000 cycle tested — confirmed long-term durability. Cycle tested to 1,000,000 opening and closing cycles, confirming that the dual air pocket profile maintains its geometry and sealing performance under sustained high-traffic use. The flexible PVC construction recovers consistently after compression without permanent deformation.
- Self-adhesive fixing — no drilling or screwing required. The self-adhesive backing allows direct application to the door frame stop without tools, making installation straightforward and suitable for frame materials where screw fixing is not appropriate.
- Four colour options — black, brown, white, grey. Available in four standard colours to suit a range of door and frame finishes. The 10 × 10mm profile is compact and unobtrusive on the frame stop face.
Installation
Measure the door head and jamb dimensions and cut the NOR710 to length. The 2100mm length covers a standard door height jamb; the 3000mm length provides sufficient material for both jambs from a single length on standard door heights, or for taller door applications.
Clean the face of the door frame stop thoroughly — the surface must be dry, grease-free, and free from dust and loose material before applying the self-adhesive backing. Peel back the release liner and press the NOR710 firmly onto the frame stop face at the head and both jambs, with the air pocket profile facing the door leaf. Apply firm, even pressure along the full length of the seal to ensure consistent adhesion.
Close the door and check that the dual air pocket profile compresses evenly against the door face along the full length of the seal at the head and both jambs. The seal should compress without impeding the door from closing fully or engaging the latch.
Install a compatible door bottom seal (NOR815, NOR820, or NOR855) and threshold to complete the acoustic and smoke barrier around the full doorset perimeter.
