Rytons 9×3 Acoustic AirLiner Set with Hit & Miss Ventilator | Telescopic Cavity Liner | 6,300mm²

The Rytons 9×3 Acoustic AirLiner Set is a telescopic cavity wall ventilator system designed to provide controlled background ventilation through masonry cavity walls while achieving significant acoustic attenuation of external noise. The system consists of a telescopic sleeve that spans the cavity wall, a hit & miss ventilator grille on the internal face, and an external grille on the outer face. The telescopic sleeve adjusts in length to suit different wall thicknesses, eliminating the need for cutting to length on site. The hit & miss ventilator allows the airflow to be controlled — open for ventilation, closed to reduce draughts — while the acoustic lining within the sleeve attenuates sound transmission through the vent opening.

The 9×3 AirLiner Set achieves 38 dB sound reduction when open and 39 dB when closed, tested by BRE in accordance with BS EN 13141-1:2004. Equivalent area is 6,300mm², providing adequate background ventilation for standard residential applications. Manufactured from UV-stabilised polypropylene and high-impact polystyrene. Sleeve dimensions: 220mm W × 71mm H, extending from 250mm to 368mm. Internal grille: 271mm L × 95mm H. Available in seven colours: Terracotta, Buff/Sand, Blue/Black, Grey, White, Brown, and Black.

Applications

  • Background ventilation through masonry cavity walls — acoustic attenuation of external noise. Install through the cavity wall to provide controlled background ventilation in rooms where external noise is a concern. The acoustic lining within the telescopic sleeve attenuates sound transmission through the vent opening, achieving 38 dB reduction when open and 39 dB when closed. This makes the 9×3 AirLiner appropriate for residential applications in areas with moderate external noise levels where background ventilation is required to meet Building Regulations Part F requirements without compromising the acoustic performance of the building envelope.
  • Replacement of existing non-acoustic ventilators. The telescopic sleeve adjusts from 250mm to 368mm, covering standard cavity wall thicknesses. The 9×3 format fits standard 9×3 inch (229×76mm) ventilator brick openings, making it a direct replacement for existing non-acoustic ventilators in this opening size without requiring modification to the brickwork.
  • Hit & miss control — ventilation management. The hit & miss ventilator grille allows the occupant to open or close the vent to control airflow. When closed, the acoustic performance improves marginally to 39 dB. The controllable grille allows ventilation to be reduced during periods of high external noise without fully blocking the vent opening.

Product Benefits

  • 38 dB open / 39 dB closed — BRE tested to BS EN 13141-1:2004. Acoustic performance independently tested by BRE in accordance with BS EN 13141-1:2004, providing verified sound reduction data for specification purposes.
  • 6,300mm² equivalent area — adequate background ventilation. The 6,300mm² equivalent area meets background ventilation requirements for standard residential room sizes under Building Regulations Part F. Equivalent area tested to BS EN 13141-1:2004.
  • Telescopic sleeve — adjusts 250mm to 368mm. Adjusts to suit wall thicknesses from 250mm to 368mm without cutting, covering standard UK cavity wall constructions.
  • Hit & miss ventilator — occupant-controlled airflow. The internal hit & miss grille allows the occupant to open or close the vent to manage airflow and reduce draughts when ventilation is not required.
  • UV-stabilised polypropylene and high-impact polystyrene — durable, weather-resistant construction.
  • Seven colour options — Terracotta, Buff/Sand, Blue/Black, Grey, White, Brown, Black.

Installation

The 9×3 AirLiner Set is designed to fit a standard 9×3 inch ventilator brick opening (229×76mm). For new build, form the opening during construction. For retrofit, remove the existing ventilator and use the opening as formed.

Insert the telescopic sleeve through the wall opening from the external face, adjusting the length to suit the wall thickness. The sleeve should span the full wall thickness with the external grille face flush with or slightly proud of the external wall face. Fix the sleeve in position using appropriate fixings or mortar as required.

Fit the internal hit & miss grille to the internal face of the sleeve. Check that the hit & miss mechanism operates freely and that the grille sits flush against the internal wall face. Check that the external grille is correctly seated and that the vent opening is clear of mortar or debris.
