Maximum Performance for Loud Noise Through Separating Walls

Our Pro Wall Soundproofing System is designed for more demanding noise problems, helping to reduce loud airborne noise such as music, shouting and higher levels of general disturbance through separating walls. Suitable for both stud walls and brick walls, this system uses a resilient MuteClip and MuteClip Channel framework to isolate the new wall lining from the existing structure, then adds high-mass layers to further improve sound reduction.

To make things easier, our online calculator does all the hard work for you by working out the quantities required for your project, with an additional 5% already allowed for waste, helping ensure you have everything needed to complete the installation.

Independent Clip & Channel Wall System for Higher Noise Levels

Our Pro Wall Soundproofing System is a step up from direct-bonded wall upgrades and is intended for situations where you need a more robust solution for loud airborne noise. By using a clip and channel system, the new wall lining is resiliently mounted, helping reduce the mechanical transfer of sound through the structure. The system then adds mass using acoustic plasterboard and 10kg MLV.

The build-up consists of:

The finished build-up is approximately 80mm overall.

Important Supply Information

All components required for this system are supplied by us as part of the calculator output. You do not need to source additional system materials separately apart from the required fixings. Fixings can also be sourced locally to suit your specific wall type and site conditions.

How the System Works

This system improves sound insulation using a combination of isolation and mass:

  • MuteClips and MuteClip Channel create a resiliently mounted framework to help isolate the new lining from the existing wall
  • The acoustic plasterboard layers add mass and form the finished wall lining
  • The 10kg MLV layer adds dense mass to improve airborne sound reduction
  • AC95 Acoustic Sealant helps close perimeter gaps and weak points
  • Jointing Tape helps seal joints and improve airtightness

This makes the system well suited to reducing music, shouting, loud voices and other higher-level airborne noise through separating walls.

What We Supply

The system calculator works out the estimated quantities required for the soundproofing materials we supply, including:

  • MuteClip
  • MuteClip Channel
  • 2 layers of 15mm Acoustic Plasterboard
  • 1 layer of 10kg MLV (Soundproofing Mat)
  • AC95 Acoustic Sealant
  • Jointing Tape
  • Contact Adhesive

We also include an additional 5% allowance for waste in the calculated quantities.

What You Need to Source Separately

You will also need:

  • Fixings suitable for your wall type (stud or brick)

These are not supplied by us, but can be sourced easily from most local builders merchants.

Key Benefits

  • Maximum performance option for loud airborne noise
  • Suitable for both stud walls and brick walls
  • Resilient clip and channel design for improved isolation
  • Calculator provides a quick material estimate
  • Includes a 5% waste allowance in the calculated quantities
  • Can be used where direct-bonded systems are not sufficient

Important Notes

  • This system is suitable for both stud and brick walls, but installation method and fixings will vary depending on the surface
  • It is intended primarily for airborne sound reduction
  • Fixings are not included or supplied by us
  • Sealant quantities are an approximation only and should be treated as a guide
  • The calculator is provided as a guide only, and final quantities should always be checked before ordering
  • This system is more advanced than our Essential and Plus wall systems and is recommended for those with more advanced DIY / construction experience
  • Electrical sockets and switches should only be removed and reinstated by a qualified electrician

Fixings Required

  • MuteClip direct to wall – Hammer Fix Plug & Screw
  • MuteClip to stud frame – 5mm x 60mm Wood Screw
  • 1st plasterboard layer to channel – 32mm Fine Thread Drywall Screw
  • 2nd plasterboard layer to channel – 50mm Fine Thread Drywall Screw
  • MuteClip Channel overlap – 20mm Steel Self-Tapping Screw

Installation Summary

Installation involves:

  1. Preparing the existing wall and ensuring it is sound and free from defects
  2. Marking out and fixing MuteClips in the correct positions for your wall type
  3. Fitting MuteClip Channel horizontally into the clips (including correct overlap where required)
  4. Installing the first layer of 15mm Acoustic Plasterboard, leaving a small perimeter gap
  5. Sealing the perimeter with AC95 Acoustic Sealant
  6. Bonding the 10kg MLV to the plasterboard using contact adhesive and taping joints
  7. Installing the second layer of 15mm Acoustic Plasterboard, staggering joints where possible
  8. Sealing the perimeter again with AC95 Acoustic Sealant before finishing
  9. The completed wall can then be skimmed or tape and jointed ready for decoration.
