The NOR815 is a single-actuation automatic drop seal designed for retrofit installation to the bottom edge of doors where draught exclusion, acoustic performance, and smoke sealing are required. The lightweight self-levelling mechanism activates on door closing, dropping the seal carrier to close the gap between the door bottom and the floor, and retracts automatically on opening. The self-levelling action accommodates minor variations in floor level across the width of the door, maintaining consistent contact with uneven floor surfaces. The seal is adjustable to suit the gap size required and is screw-fixed to the door face without routing or core removal.

The NOR815 is manufactured from aluminium with a PVC gasket, supplied in satin silver with a grey gasket. The housing profile is 8.5 × 40.5mm — a lower-profile housing than the NOR820, suited to applications where a more compact seal is appropriate. Maximum gap coverage is 17mm, providing greater floor gap tolerance than the NOR820. Supplied as a single length of 915mm with a 300mm cutback (150mm from each end). Meets smoke requirements to BS 8214 and provides draught exclusion and acoustic performance. Recommended for use with the NOR630 Aluminium Threshold.

Applications

• Acoustic and draught-control doorsets — retrofit to the bottom face of the door leaf where the gap between the door bottom and the floor requires sealing for acoustic performance and draught exclusion. The self-levelling mechanism accommodates floor level variation across the door width, making it suitable for installations where the floor surface is not perfectly level. The 17mm maximum gap coverage makes it appropriate for larger floor gaps than the NOR820 can accommodate.
• Residential and light commercial doorsets — the compact 8.5 × 40.5mm housing profile is suited to residential and light commercial applications where a lower-profile seal is preferred. The 915mm length covers standard single door leaf widths.
• Use with NOR630 Aluminium Threshold — for optimal acoustic and draught performance, install in conjunction with the NOR630 Aluminium Threshold, which provides a consistent, level surface for the seal to engage against across the full width of the door.

Installation

Check that the 915mm length is appropriate for the door leaf width, accounting for the 300mm cutback (150mm from each end) to clear door furniture. The seal body should not extend beyond the door leaf width.

Position the NOR815 centrally on the bottom face of the door leaf with the actuator aligned to contact the door stop or frame on closing. Mark and drill fixing holes. Screw-fix the housing to the door face using appropriate fixings.

Adjust the seal carrier height to suit the floor gap. Close the door and verify that the carrier drops to make full contact with the floor across the width of the seal and that the self-levelling action accommodates any variation in floor level. Check that the carrier retracts fully on opening.

For optimal performance, install in conjunction with the NOR630 Aluminium Threshold to provide a consistent engagement surface. Seal the head and jamb of the door frame with compatible Norsound seals to complete the acoustic barrier around the full doorset.
