Norsound Typhoon Retro Fit Glass Door Edge Seal | Aluminium & Neoprene | 8–10mm Glass
The Typhoon is a glass door edge seal designed for retrofit installation to the perimeter edges of acoustic glass doors — the head, jamb, and meeting edges — to provide acoustic sealing and draught exclusion at the gap between the glass door leaf and the surrounding frame or door stop. The seal clips or bonds onto the edge of the glass door leaf and the neoprene gasket compresses against the frame or door stop on closing, forming a continuous seal around the door perimeter. This edge-mounted approach is suited to glass doors where the seal must be applied to the glass edge itself rather than to the frame, and where the glass thickness is 8–10mm (neoprene packing required for 10–11mm glass).
The Typhoon is manufactured from aluminium with a neoprene gasket, supplied in satin silver (S) or satin gold (G) finish. Bonded with adhesive (not supplied). Available in two profile variants — Typhoon SN and Typhoon SP — with multiple blade options (SN007, SN022, SN023, SN024, SN025, SN064) to suit different frame geometries and gap sizes. Maximum gap coverage is 12mm when used with the 064 blade. Standard lengths are 1000mm and 2100mm for SN variants; 2100mm for SP. Suited to glass thickness 8–10mm; neoprene packing required for 10–11mm glass.
Applications
- Glass door perimeter sealing — head, jamb, and meeting edges — bond to the edges of the glass door leaf at the head, jambs, and meeting stile to create a continuous acoustic seal around the door perimeter. The neoprene gasket compresses against the frame or door stop on closing, sealing the gap between the glass edge and the surrounding structure. The Typhoon is the appropriate specification for glass doors where the seal must be applied to the glass edge rather than to the frame, and where the frame geometry requires an edge-mounted seal profile.
- 8–10mm glass doors — the Typhoon is designed for glass thickness of 8–10mm. For 10–11mm glass, neoprene packing is required to ensure the housing seats correctly on the glass edge. Confirm the glass thickness before selecting the appropriate blade variant and ordering packing if required.
- Blade variant selection for different frame geometries — the Typhoon SN range offers multiple blade options (SN007, SN022, SN023, SN024, SN025, SN064) to suit different frame geometries and gap sizes. The SN064 blade provides maximum gap coverage of 12mm. Select the blade variant appropriate to the frame geometry and the gap between the glass edge and the door stop or frame face. The Typhoon SP is a single-profile variant available in 2100mm length. Refer to the product datasheet for blade selection guidance.
- Finish options — satin silver and satin gold — available in satin silver and satin gold anodised aluminium to suit standard glass door hardware finishes.
Product Benefits
- Edge-mounted seal — applied to the glass door leaf, not the frame. The Typhoon is bonded to the edge of the glass door leaf, making it appropriate for glass door configurations where the frame does not provide a suitable surface for a frame-mounted seal, or where the seal must travel with the door leaf. The neoprene gasket compresses against the frame or door stop on closing, providing the acoustic and draught seal at the door perimeter.
- Multiple blade variants — adaptable to different frame geometries. The SN blade range (SN007, SN022, SN023, SN024, SN025, SN064) provides options for different frame geometries and gap sizes, allowing the Typhoon to be specified for a range of glass door frame configurations. Maximum gap coverage of 12mm with the SN064 blade.
- Neoprene gasket — durable, weather-resistant sealing element. Neoprene maintains its elastic properties over a wide temperature range and provides good resistance to weathering, ozone, and UV exposure, making it suitable for both internal and external glass door applications.
- Satin silver and satin gold finish options. The anodised aluminium housing is available in satin silver and satin gold to match standard glass door hardware finishes.
- Bonded fixing — no drilling into glass required. The Typhoon is bonded to the glass edge using adhesive (not supplied), without requiring any drilling or screwing into the glass.
Installation
Confirm the glass thickness is 8–10mm. If the glass is 10–11mm, obtain neoprene packing before installation. Select the appropriate blade variant for the frame geometry and gap size — refer to the product datasheet for blade selection guidance.
Clean the glass edge thoroughly — the surface must be dry, grease-free, and free from contamination before bonding. Apply a suitable adhesive (not supplied) to the housing channel and press the Typhoon firmly onto the glass edge, ensuring the housing seats correctly and the neoprene gasket is correctly oriented to face the frame or door stop. Work along the full length of the edge in a continuous run. Allow the adhesive to cure fully before operating the door.
Close the door and check that the neoprene gasket compresses evenly against the frame or door stop along the full length of the seal at the head, jambs, and meeting stile. The gasket should compress without the door being prevented from closing fully. Adjust if required.
