2" SoundControl Ceiling Suspended Acoustic Panel 2ft × 2ft | 610 × 610mm | NRC 1.00 | Class A
The Advanced Acoustics 2" SoundControl Ceiling Suspended Acoustic Panel is a fabric-wrapped acoustic panel designed to hang from the ceiling on steel wire rope, suspending the panel below the ceiling surface. The suspended format treats reverberation from both faces of the panel simultaneously, increasing the effective absorption per panel relative to a surface-mounted installation of the same size. The panel consists of a 50mm Class '0' open-cell acoustic foam core wrapped in an open-weave polyester fabric, mounted on a rigid backing board with suspension fixings for wire rope hanging. The fabric wrap is available in 31 colours.
The 2ft × 2ft (610 × 610mm) format provides 0.37m² of panel face area. The 2" foam depth achieves NRC 1.00 (Sound Absorption Class A) — the highest absorption class — with significantly improved low-frequency performance compared to the 1" suspended panel (0.61 at 250Hz vs 0.30). The suspended format further increases effective absorption by exposing both panel faces to the room, making the 2" suspended panel the highest-performance specification in the SoundControl ceiling range.
Please note that this product is made to order for your space, each product is crafted to your chosen specification from our wide range of options, with a lead time of 2–3 weeks. Suspension components (wire rope and loop clamps) are available separately.
Applications
- High-ceiling spaces requiring broadband absorption where surface fixing is impractical. The 2" suspended panel is the appropriate specification for spaces with high, vaulted, or structurally complex ceilings where direct surface fixing is not feasible and where broadband reverberation control — including low-mid frequencies — is required. Wire rope suspension allows panels to be hung at an appropriate height within the room, bringing Class A absorption closer to the occupied zone.
- Open-plan offices — broadband reverberation control. Suspended panels treat reverberation from both faces simultaneously. The 2" foam depth provides strong absorption from 250Hz upward, addressing both speech-frequency and low-mid frequency reverberation. The compact 2ft × 2ft format allows panels to be distributed across the ceiling area between fixtures.
- Meeting rooms and conference spaces. Suspended panels above a meeting table or conference area provide targeted Class A absorption directly over the primary speech zone, improving speech intelligibility for both in-room participants and remote attendees. The 2" panel is the preferred suspended specification for meeting rooms and boardrooms where the highest acoustic performance is required.
- Spaces with exposed structural ceilings. In spaces with exposed concrete, steel, or timber structural ceilings, surface-mounted fixing may not be appropriate. Wire rope suspension from structural elements allows panels to be installed without surface fixing, providing Class A absorption in spaces where a surface-mounted installation would not be possible.
- Educational environments — classrooms and lecture spaces. The 2" suspended panel provides broadband absorption at the ceiling plane, improving acoustic conditions for students across the full speech frequency range including low-mid frequencies.
Product Benefits
- NRC 1.00 — Class A broadband absorption. The 2" (50mm) foam core achieves NRC 1.00 (Sound Absorption Class A), with strong absorption across the full speech frequency range: 0.61 at 250Hz, 1.03 at 500Hz, 1.16 at 1000Hz, 1.11 at 2000Hz, and 1.10 at 4000Hz. The significantly improved low-frequency performance at 250Hz (0.61 vs 0.30 for the 1" panel) makes the 2" panel the appropriate specification where low-mid frequency reverberation control is required. The suspended format exposes both panel faces to the room, further increasing effective absorption.
- Class '0' fire-rated foam core — compliant for commercial use. The acoustic foam core is Class '0' rated to BS 476 Parts 6 and 7, and C s1, d0 to EN 13501-1, meeting commercial fire safety requirements for suspended acoustic treatment in offices, schools, and public buildings.
- Open-weave polyester fabric wrap — 31 colour options. The open-weave polyester fabric allows sound to pass through to the foam core without significant attenuation, maintaining the full NRC 1.00 performance across the entire colour range. Available in 31 colours — download the swatch card for the full range.
- Wire rope suspension — compatible with Advanced Acoustics suspension components. Designed for use with the Advanced Acoustics 1.5mm steel wire rope and loop clamp suspension components, available separately. Wire rope suspension allows panel height to be adjusted during installation and provides a clean, minimal fixing detail.
- Compact 2ft × 2ft format — flexible suspended placement. The 610 × 610mm square format is the most flexible in the 2" SoundControl suspended range for targeted placement and modular grid installations, allowing panels to be positioned between ceiling fixtures, light fittings, and sprinkler heads.
- Handmade in the UK — consistent quality across every panel. All SoundControl panels are handmade in the Advanced Acoustics UK facility using consistent materials and construction methods, ensuring uniform acoustic performance and finish quality across every panel in an installation.
Installation
Determine the desired suspension height and cut the wire rope to the appropriate length, allowing for the loop clamp fixing at the ceiling and the panel attachment point. Ensure ceiling fixing points are located on solid ceiling structure or appropriate noggins — do not fix into plasterboard alone without appropriate cavity fixings. Check for concealed services (electrical cables, pipework) before drilling into the ceiling.
Thread the wire rope through the loop clamp and fix the clamp to the ceiling at the marked position. Attach the wire rope to the panel suspension fixing point and adjust the panel height as required before securing the wire rope in position.
For grid installations, use a chalk line or laser level to ensure consistent alignment and equal spacing between panels. Set out all suspension points before installing any panels to ensure the grid is correctly laid out.
Frequently Asked Questions
What ceiling height is needed for suspended panels?
There is no minimum ceiling height requirement, but suspended panels work best in rooms where there is enough clearance between the suspended panel and head height to avoid the panel appearing too low. In a standard 2.4m ceiling, a suspension drop of 200–300mm positions the panel visually and acoustically without intruding on the usable space. The wire and clamps can be adjusted to any length to suit your ceiling height.
Can I order panels in a custom size?
Yes. Custom sized panels are available across the SoundControl range. Email your required dimensions to info@advancedacoustics-uk.com and we will provide a quote. Most custom orders are straightforward modifications of the standard sizes and carry the same 2–3 week lead time.
Can I see the fabric colours before I order?
A PDF swatch card showing all available fabric colours is available to download here. If you would like a physical fabric sample before committing to a colour, contact us and we will send one out. Given the 2–3 week lead time on all made-to-order panels, confirming the colour against your interior before ordering is worthwhile.
Will acoustic panels actually make a noticeable difference to our office?
In a hard-surfaced office with plasterboard walls, a solid ceiling, and a concrete or hard floor — the standard construction of most commercial fit-outs — reverberation times are typically well above the recommended level for speech intelligibility. Acoustic panels absorb the reflected energy that accumulates in those surfaces, reducing reverberation time and improving clarity. The result is a room where conversations are clearer, background noise feels less intrusive, and sustained concentration is easier. The improvement in a standard office environment is significant and immediately noticeable.
I need panels for a specific project date — can you accommodate a deadline?
Contact us before ordering with your required delivery date and we will confirm whether it is achievable. Lead times are typically 2–3 weeks, but where a project deadline is tight we will do our best to accommodate it. Get in touch and we'll help in any way we can.
