Green Glue Noiseproofing Joist Tape | 50mm × 3.2mm | 30m Roll

Green Glue Noiseproofing Joist Tape is a self-adhesive foam tape applied to the top of timber joists before the subfloor is laid. It decouples the subfloor from the joist structure, preventing direct contact between the two surfaces. This decoupling eliminates the primary cause of floor squeaking — timber-on-timber friction as joists and boards move relative to each other — and reduces the transmission of impact noise through the floor assembly.

At 50mm wide and 3.2mm thick, the tape is suited to narrower joists and adds negligible build-up to the floor assembly. Each roll provides 30 linear metres of coverage.

Applications

  • Timber joisted floors — squeak prevention — apply to the top of each joist before laying the subfloor. The tape prevents direct contact between the subfloor and joist, eliminating squeaking caused by movement and settlement. Suitable for new build and renovation projects where timber joists are accessible prior to subfloor installation.
  • Timber joisted floors — impact noise reduction — used as part of a floor soundproofing assembly to decouple the floor structure and reduce the transmission of impact noise. For improved sound isolation, STS TG4 acoustic floorboards and a layer of Mass Loaded Vinyl can be incorporated into the build-up above the joist tape for additional mass and decoupling performance.

Product Benefits

  • Eliminates floor squeaking. By decoupling the subfloor from the joist, the tape prevents the timber-on-timber contact that causes squeaking as floors settle and joists move. Effective in both new build and renovation applications where joists are accessible.
  • Self-adhesive — no fixings required. The tape is applied adhesive-side down directly to the top of each joist. No additional adhesive or mechanical fixings are needed for installation.
  • 3.2mm thickness — negligible build-up. The tape adds 3.2mm to the top of each joist, which does not meaningfully affect finished floor heights in standard construction.
  • 30m per roll. Each roll covers 30 linear metres of joist, sufficient for a typical room in a single roll depending on joist spacing.

Installation

Ensure joist surfaces are clean, dry, and free from dust, dirt, and moisture before application. Apply the tape adhesive-side down evenly along the top of each joist. Once all joists are taped, lay the subfloor as normal. Do not use construction adhesives to secure the subfloor — adhesive bonding between subfloor and joist will compromise the decoupling effect of the tape.
