Norsound NOR855 Retro Fit Door Bottom Wipe Seal | Aluminium | 1000mm | 5 × 29mm

The NOR855 is a three-blade wipe seal designed for retrofit installation at the bottom of doors to provide acoustic sealing, draught exclusion, and dust control. Unlike an automatic drop seal, a wipe seal maintains continuous contact with the floor surface throughout the door’s swing — the three flexible PVC blades deflect as the door closes and wipe across the floor on opening and closing. The three-blade configuration provides redundancy in the seal line and excellent recovery values, maintaining consistent contact with the floor surface over repeated cycles. The seal can be surface-mounted to the door face or routed into the door bottom to sit flush, depending on the installation requirement and the available clearance beneath the door.

The NOR855 is manufactured from aluminium with a PVC gasket, supplied in satin silver with a black gasket. The housing profile is 5 × 29mm — a low-profile section suited to installations where build-up beneath the door is a constraint. Maximum gap coverage is 6mm. Supplied as a single length of 1000mm. Acoustically tested in accordance with BS EN ISO 10140-2. For optimal performance, use in conjunction with the NOR630 Aluminium Threshold, which provides a consistent, level engagement surface for the blades across the full width of the door.

Applications

  • Acoustic door bottom sealing — low floor gap applications. The NOR855 is suited to installations where the gap between the door bottom and the floor is 6mm or less and a continuous wipe seal is preferred over an automatic drop mechanism. The three-blade design maintains contact with the floor throughout the door swing, providing a consistent acoustic and draught seal without the mechanical complexity of a drop seal actuator.
  • Surface-mounted or routed installation. The NOR855 can be surface-mounted to the bottom face of the door leaf or routed into the door bottom to sit flush with the door face. The routed installation reduces the visible profile of the seal and is appropriate where the door bottom clearance is tight or where a flush finish is required. Surface mounting requires no modification to the door and is the simpler installation option.
  • Use with NOR630 Aluminium Threshold. For optimal sealing performance, install in conjunction with the NOR630 Aluminium Threshold. The threshold provides a flat, consistent surface for the wipe blades to engage against, improving seal continuity and reducing blade wear over time.

Product Benefits

  • Three-blade PVC wipe seal — excellent recovery and consistent contact. The three-blade configuration provides a redundant seal line — if one blade is deflected by a surface irregularity, the remaining blades maintain the seal. The PVC blades have excellent recovery values, returning to their original profile after deflection and maintaining consistent contact with the floor surface over the service life of the seal.
  • Surface-mounted or routed — flexible installation options. The NOR855 can be installed surface-mounted or routed flush into the door bottom, providing flexibility to suit the installation context. Surface mounting requires no modification to the door core; routed installation provides a flush finish and reduces the visible profile of the seal on the door face.
  • Low-profile 5 × 29mm housing. The compact aluminium housing adds minimal build-up to the door bottom, making it suitable for installations where clearance beneath the door is limited. The satin silver finish with black PVC blades is compatible with standard commercial and residential doorset aesthetics.
  • Acoustic tested to BS EN ISO 10140-2. Tested in accordance with BS EN ISO 10140-2, confirming acoustic sealing performance at the door bottom.

Installation

Measure the door leaf width and confirm the 1000mm length is appropriate. The seal can be cut to length on site if required.

For surface mounting: position the NOR855 on the bottom face of the door leaf, centred across the width. Mark and drill fixing holes. Screw-fix the housing to the door face. Check that the blades make consistent contact with the floor surface across the full width of the seal when the door is in the closed position.

For routed installation: rout a channel into the door bottom to the depth required to bring the seal face flush with the door bottom face. Insert the housing into the channel and fix in place. Check blade contact with the floor as above.

For both installation methods, check that the blades deflect smoothly across the floor surface as the door swings and that they recover to their original profile after the door passes. Install the NOR630 Aluminium Threshold at the door sill to provide a consistent engagement surface. Seal the head and jamb of the door frame with compatible Norsound seals to complete the acoustic barrier around the full doorset.
