Norsound NOR872 Retro Fit Sliding Glass Door Bottom Auto Drop Seal | Glass >6mm | 15 × 44.5mm
The NOR872 is a single-actuation automatic drop seal designed for retrofit installation to the bottom edge of sliding acoustic glass doors with glass thickness no greater than 6mm. When the door slides to the closed position, the actuator contacts the door stop and drives the seal carrier downward, closing the gap between the door bottom and the floor. When the door slides open, the carrier retracts, allowing the door to travel freely without the seal dragging across the floor surface. The seal is bonded to the bottom edge of the glass door leaf using adhesive (not supplied) and does not require screwing or drilling into the glass.
The NOR872 housing is manufactured from aluminium with a silicone gasket, supplied in silver anodised (C 0) or stainless steel-coloured anodised (C 31) finish. The housing profile is 15 × 44.5mm. Maximum gap coverage is 11mm. Standard lengths are 708mm, 833mm, 958mm, 1083mm, and 1208mm, with a 125mm cutback. Single actuation. The NOR872 is the universal glass thickness variant in the sliding door drop seal range — suitable for any glass thickness up to 6mm where the NOR873 (8mm) or NOR874 (10mm) specific variants are not required.
Applications
- Sliding acoustic glass doors — glass thickness >6mm — bond to the bottom edge of the sliding glass door leaf to seal the gap between the door bottom and the floor when the door is in the closed position. The automatic drop mechanism ensures the seal engages on every close without manual intervention, and retracts on opening to allow the door to slide freely. Select the appropriate length for the door leaf width, accounting for the 125mm cutback at the actuator end.
- Retrofit installation on existing sliding glass doorsets — the bonded fixing method allows the NOR872 to be installed on existing glass door leaves without drilling or screwing into the glass. Use a suitable structural adhesive compatible with the glass and aluminium housing materials. Ensure the glass edge is clean and free from contamination before bonding.
- Universal glass thickness specification — the NOR872 is appropriate where the glass thickness is greater than 6mm but the exact thickness does not match the NOR873 (8mm) or NOR874 (10mm) specific variants, or where a single seal specification is required across a range of glass thicknesses within a project.
Product Benefits
- Single-actuation automatic drop mechanism — consistent sealing on every close. The actuator engages the door stop on closing, driving the seal carrier down to close the floor gap automatically. The mechanism retracts on opening, preventing the seal from dragging across the floor. This ensures the acoustic seal is engaged consistently on every close without manual adjustment.
- Bonded fixing — no drilling into glass required. The NOR872 is bonded to the bottom edge of the glass door leaf using adhesive, without requiring any drilling or screwing into the glass. This preserves the structural integrity of the glass and makes installation straightforward on existing glass door leaves.
- 15 × 44.5mm aluminium housing — silicone gasket. The aluminium housing provides a rigid, durable profile. The silicone gasket provides the compressible sealing element at the floor contact point, maintaining consistent contact across the width of the seal.
- Five standard lengths — 708mm to 1208mm. Available in five lengths covering standard sliding glass door leaf widths. The 125mm cutback accommodates the actuator mechanism and door furniture clearance at the end of the seal.
- Two finish options — silver anodised and stainless steel-coloured anodised. Available in C 0 silver anodised and C 31 stainless steel-coloured anodised to suit standard glass door hardware finishes.
Installation
Select the appropriate seal length for the door leaf width, accounting for the 125mm cutback at the actuator end. The seal body should not extend beyond the door leaf width.
Clean the bottom edge of the glass door leaf thoroughly — the surface must be dry, grease-free, and free from dust and contamination before bonding. Apply a suitable structural adhesive (not supplied) to the housing channel and press the housing firmly onto the bottom edge of the glass. Allow the adhesive to cure fully before operating the door.
Once cured, slide the door to the closed position and check that the actuator engages the door stop cleanly and the seal carrier drops to make full contact with the floor across the width of the seal. Check that the carrier retracts fully when the door is opened and does not drag across the floor surface.
