Rytons 9×3 Cowled Acoustic AirLiner Set with Hit & Miss Ventilator | Telescopic Cavity Liner | 6,300mm²

The Rytons 9×3 Cowled Acoustic AirLiner Set is a telescopic cavity wall ventilator system with an external cowl, designed to provide controlled background ventilation through masonry cavity walls while achieving acoustic attenuation of external noise and improved weather resistance at the external face. The cowl replaces the flat external grille of the standard AirLiner Set, providing a projecting external cover that deflects wind-driven rain away from the vent opening and reduces wind-induced noise at the external face. The system otherwise shares the same telescopic sleeve, hit & miss internal grille, and acoustic lining as the standard 9×3 AirLiner Set.

The 9×3 Cowled AirLiner Set achieves 39 dB sound reduction when open and 40 dB when closed, tested by BRE in accordance with BS EN 13141-1:2004 — marginally better than the standard (non-cowled) variant due to the additional acoustic path length introduced by the cowl geometry. Equivalent area is 6,300mm². Manufactured from UV-stabilised high-impact polystyrene and polypropylene. Cowl dimensions: 255mm L × 96mm H × 44mm D. Sleeve: 220mm W × 71mm H, extending 250mm to 368mm. Internal grille: 271mm L × 95mm H. Available in Terracotta and Buff/Sand.

Applications

  • Background ventilation with improved weather resistance — exposed or wind-driven rain locations. The external cowl deflects wind-driven rain away from the vent opening, making the cowled variant the appropriate specification for exposed wall faces, prevailing wind elevations, or locations where the standard flat external grille would be subject to water ingress. The cowl also reduces wind-induced noise at the external face, contributing marginally to the improved acoustic performance compared to the standard variant.
  • Replacement of existing non-acoustic ventilators in 9×3 openings. Fits standard 9×3 inch (229×76mm) ventilator brick openings. The cowl projects from the external wall face — confirm adequate clearance from adjacent features (window reveals, downpipes, etc.) before specifying the cowled variant.
  • Hit & miss control — ventilation management. The hit & miss ventilator grille allows the occupant to open or close the vent to control airflow. When closed, acoustic performance improves to 40 dB.

Product Benefits

  • 39 dB open / 40 dB closed — marginally better than standard variant. The cowl geometry introduces additional acoustic path length at the external face, improving sound reduction by 1 dB compared to the standard 9×3 AirLiner Set. BRE tested to BS EN 13141-1:2004.
  • External cowl — improved weather resistance. The projecting cowl deflects wind-driven rain from the vent opening, reducing the risk of water ingress in exposed locations. Cowl dimensions: 255mm L × 96mm H × 44mm D.
  • 6,300mm² equivalent area — same ventilation performance as standard variant.
  • Telescopic sleeve — adjusts 250mm to 368mm.
  • Hit & miss ventilator — occupant-controlled airflow.
  • UV-stabilised high-impact polystyrene and polypropylene.
  • Two colour options — Terracotta and Buff/Sand.

Installation

As the standard 9×3 AirLiner Set. The cowl is fitted to the external face of the sleeve in place of the flat external grille. Ensure the cowl projects clear of the wall face and that there is adequate clearance from adjacent wall features. The cowl opening should face downward to deflect rain — confirm correct orientation before fixing.
