1" Class '0' Acoustic Foam Panel - 2ft by 4ft
The Advanced Acoustics Class '0' 1" is a 25mm acoustic foam panel manufactured from 90kg/m³ open-cell foam, measuring 2ft × 4ft (610mm × 1220mm). The panel achieves NRC 0.45 (Sound Absorption Class D), providing effective mid and high frequency absorption. Each panel covers 0.74m² (8sqft).
The Class '0' designation refers to the fire classification achieved under UK Building Regulations — the highest fire safety rating for surface linings, required in public buildings, commercial premises, and specified environments where standard Crib 5 foam is not sufficient. The panel meets Class '0' to BS 476 Parts 6 and 7, C s1, d0 to EN 13501-1, UL94 V-0, and Class A to ASTM E84-95. Absorption increases with frequency: 0.22 at 250Hz, 0.38 at 500Hz, 0.54 at 1kHz, 0.58 at 2kHz, and 0.66 at 4kHz. Available unmounted or mounted to a 6mm MDF substrate. Available in Black. Manufactured in the UK.
Applications
Public buildings and commercial premises — Class '0' compliance.
UK Building Regulations require surface linings in circulation areas, corridors, stairways, and public spaces to achieve Class '0' to BS 476 Parts 6 and 7 — a significantly more stringent requirement than the Crib 5 rating carried by standard acoustic foam. The Class '0' 1" panel is the appropriate specification for acoustic treatment in commercial offices, educational facilities, healthcare environments, and public buildings where the foam surface will be exposed and must comply with the Class '0' requirement. Use the Coverage Calculator to determine the number of panels required.
Professional studios and facilities with specification-grade fire requirements.
Recording studios, broadcast facilities, and post-production suites operating under commercial building regulations or insurance specifications that require Class '0' surface lining compliance can use the Class '0' panel in place of standard acoustic foam. The 25mm depth provides effective mid and high frequency absorption — 0.54 at 1kHz through to 0.66 at 4kHz — suited to voice-over booths, vocal rooms, and control room installations where compliance takes precedence over maximum acoustic performance.
Server rooms, plant rooms, and mechanical enclosures.
Environments housing electrical equipment, servers, or mechanical plant typically require Class '0' surface linings under fire regulations. The Class '0' 1" panel provides acoustic absorption in these environments where standard Crib 5 foam cannot be specified. The unmounted panel can be trimmed and fitted to non-standard surfaces; the mounted format provides a rigid panel suitable for wall hanging using mirror plates.
Product Benefits
NRC 0.45 / Sound Absorption Class D — effective mid and high frequency absorption.
The 25mm foam core achieves NRC 0.45 (Class D), with absorption increasing from 0.22 at 250Hz to 0.66 at 4kHz. The NRC is lower than the standard Acousti-Slab 1" (NRC 0.55) at the same thickness — a characteristic of the 90kg/m³ foam type used to achieve the Class '0' fire rating, which is less acoustically efficient per millimetre of depth than standard 30kg/m³ polyurethane foam. Where higher acoustic performance is required alongside Class '0' compliance, the 2", 3", or 4" Class '0' panels provide improved NRC at greater depths.
Class '0' fire classification — compliant with UK Building Regulations.
The panel meets the following fire classifications: Fire Propagation Index less than 12 (BS 476 Part 6); Surface Spread of Flame Class 1 (BS 476 Part 7); Class '0' to Building Regulations 1991 (BS 476 Parts 6 and 7); C s1, d0 (EN 13501-1); UL94 V-0; Surface Burning Class A (ASTM E84-95). This combination of classifications makes the panel suitable for use in public and commercial buildings where surface linings must comply with Class '0' under UK Building Regulations.
Unmounted and mounted-to-MDF formats.
The unmounted panel is bare foam suitable for direct adhesive fixing or trimming to size. The mounted panel is pre-fixed to a 6mm MDF substrate for wall hanging using mirror plates. Both formats are available in Black only.
Specification and compliance.
90kg/m³ foam density. Class '0' to BS 476 Parts 6 and 7; C s1, d0 to EN 13501-1. Panel size 610mm × 1220mm × 25mm (2ft × 4ft × 1"). 0.74m² (8sqft) coverage per panel. 1.4kg unmounted, 5kg mounted. Black. Custom sizes available on request. Manufactured in the UK and shipped uncompressed from stock.
Installation
Unmounted panels — adhesive fixing.
Apply Advanced Acoustics High Strength Contact Adhesive to both the back of the panel and the wall surface. Apply a band of adhesive around the perimeter and 50–75% coverage of the remaining surface area; repeat on the wall. Allow to become touch-dry before bringing surfaces together — contact adhesive bonds on contact, so position the panel carefully before pressing it to the wall. The adhesive is solvent-based; ensure adequate ventilation throughout installation.
Unmounted panels — demountable installation.
For a temporary or demountable installation, mount the panel onto 6mm MDF or plywood sheet and hang using D-rings and picture hooks. For ceiling-mounted panels, use four mirror plates per panel. This allows panels to be removed and repositioned without damage to the wall surface.
Mounted-to-MDF panels.
Fix mirror plates to the wall at the appropriate centres using suitable fixings for the wall substrate. Hang the panel on the mirror plates. The mounted panel can be removed and rehung without tools.
