2" Class '0' Acoustic Foam Panel - 2ft by 4ft
The Advanced Acoustics Class '0' 2" is a 50mm acoustic foam panel manufactured from 90kg/m³ open-cell foam, measuring 2ft × 4ft (610mm × 1220mm). The panel achieves NRC 0.70 (Sound Absorption Class C), providing effective broadband absorption across the mid and high frequency range with meaningful low-mid performance. Each panel covers 0.74m² (8sqft).
The panel carries the same Class '0' fire classification as the 1" version — meeting BS 476 Parts 6 and 7, C s1, d0 to EN 13501-1, UL94 V-0, and Class A to ASTM E84-95 — and is the appropriate specification where Class '0' compliance is required alongside stronger acoustic performance than the 25mm panel provides. Absorption: 0.44 at 250Hz, 0.70 at 500Hz, 0.82 at 1kHz, 0.87 at 2kHz, and 1.03 at 4kHz. Available unmounted or mounted to a 6mm MDF substrate. Available in Black. Manufactured in the UK.
Applications
Public buildings and commercial premises — Class '0' compliance with stronger performance.
Where the Class '0' 1" panel has been specified for fire compliance but the acoustic performance is insufficient for the space, the 2" panel provides a meaningful step up — NRC 0.70 versus 0.45 at the same footprint and the same fire classification. The 0.44 at 250Hz begins to address low-mid frequency reverberation that the 25mm panel leaves largely untreated, making the 2" the more appropriate specification for larger open-plan commercial spaces, meeting rooms, and educational environments where low-frequency reverberation is a factor alongside mid and high frequency control. Use the Coverage Calculator to determine the number of panels required.
Professional studios and facilities requiring Class '0' with broadband absorption.
Recording studios, broadcast facilities, and commercial post-production environments operating under Class '0' surface lining requirements benefit from the 2" panel where the 1" version provides insufficient acoustic treatment. The NRC 0.70 and Class C rating deliver effective broadband control from 500Hz upward — 0.70 at 500Hz through to 1.03 at 4kHz — suited to voice-over booths, vocal rooms, and control room installations where compliance and performance are both requirements.
Custom Class '0' fabric-wrapped panels.
The unmounted 2" Class '0' panel is the appropriate base for fabric-wrapped acoustic panels in commercial and public spaces where Class '0' compliance must be maintained through the finished panel construction. The 90kg/m³ foam core retains its fire classification when wrapped in an acoustically transparent open-weave fabric, providing a compliant, finished-look acoustic panel for specification projects. Custom sizes are available on request.
Product Benefits
NRC 0.70 / Sound Absorption Class C — improved broadband performance over the 1" panel.
The 50mm foam core achieves NRC 0.70 (Class C), with absorption of 0.44 at 250Hz, 0.70 at 500Hz, 0.82 at 1000Hz, 0.87 at 2000Hz, and 1.03 at 4000Hz. The NRC 0.70 represents a significant improvement over the 1" Class '0' panel (NRC 0.45) at the same fire classification, with the 0.44 at 250Hz delivering twice the low-frequency absorption of the 25mm version (0.22). As with all Class '0' panels, the NRC is lower than a standard polyurethane Acousti-Slab at the same thickness due to the acoustic characteristics of the 90kg/m³ foam required to achieve Class '0' compliance.
Class '0' fire classification — compliant with UK Building Regulations.
Fire Propagation Index less than 12 (BS 476 Part 6); Surface Spread of Flame Class 1 (BS 476 Part 7); Class '0' to Building Regulations 1991 (BS 476 Parts 6 and 7); C s1, d0 (EN 13501-1); UL94 V-0; Surface Burning Class A (ASTM E84-95). Suitable for use in public and commercial buildings where surface linings must comply with Class '0' under UK Building Regulations.
Unmounted and mounted-to-MDF formats.
The unmounted panel is bare foam suitable for direct adhesive fixing or trimming to size. The mounted panel is pre-fixed to a 6mm MDF substrate for wall hanging using mirror plates. Both formats are available in Black only.
Specification and compliance.
90kg/m³ foam density. Class '0' to BS 476 Parts 6 and 7; C s1, d0 to EN 13501-1. Panel size 610mm × 1220mm × 50mm (2ft × 4ft × 2"). 0.74m² (8sqft) coverage per panel. 2.8kg unmounted, 6.4kg mounted. Black. Custom sizes available on request. Manufactured in the UK and shipped uncompressed from stock.
Installation
Unmounted panels — adhesive fixing.
Apply Advanced Acoustics High Strength Contact Adhesive to both the back of the panel and the wall surface. Apply a band of adhesive around the perimeter and 50–75% coverage of the remaining surface area; repeat on the wall. Allow to become touch-dry before bringing surfaces together — contact adhesive bonds on contact, so position the panel carefully before pressing it to the wall. The adhesive is solvent-based; ensure adequate ventilation throughout installation.
Unmounted panels — demountable installation.
For a temporary or demountable installation, mount the panel onto 6mm MDF or plywood sheet and hang using D-rings and picture hooks. For ceiling-mounted panels, use four mirror plates per panel. This allows panels to be removed and repositioned without damage to the wall surface.
Mounted-to-MDF panels.
Fix mirror plates to the wall at the appropriate centres using suitable fixings for the wall substrate. Hang the panel on the mirror plates. The mounted panel can be removed and rehung without tools.
