The Rytons 9×6 Acoustic AirLiner Set is a telescopic cavity wall ventilator system designed to provide controlled background ventilation through masonry cavity walls while achieving significant acoustic attenuation of external noise. The 9×6 format provides a larger equivalent area than the 9×3, making it appropriate for larger rooms or applications where a higher ventilation rate is required. The system consists of a telescopic sleeve, a hit & miss ventilator grille on the internal face, and an external grille, with acoustic lining within the sleeve attenuating sound transmission through the vent opening.
The 9×6 AirLiner Set achieves 42 dB sound reduction, tested by BRE in accordance with BS EN 13141-1:2004. Equivalent area is 9,800mm². Manufactured from UV-stabilised high-impact polystyrene and polypropylene. Sleeve dimensions: 220mm W × 140mm H, extending from 250mm to 404mm. Internal grille: 271mm L × 171mm H. Available in seven colours: Terracotta, Buff/Sand, Blue/Black, Grey, White, Brown, and Black.
Applications
- Background ventilation for larger rooms — higher equivalent area than 9×3. The 9×6 format provides 9,800mm² equivalent area, compared to 6,300mm² for the 9×3, making it appropriate for larger rooms or applications where the ventilation requirement exceeds what a single 9×3 unit can provide. Install through the cavity wall to provide controlled background ventilation with 42 dB acoustic attenuation of external noise.
- Replacement of existing non-acoustic ventilators in 9×6 openings. Fits standard 9×6 inch (229×152mm) ventilator brick openings. The telescopic sleeve adjusts from 250mm to 404mm, covering standard UK cavity wall thicknesses.
- Hit & miss control — ventilation management. The hit & miss ventilator grille allows the occupant to open or close the vent to control airflow and reduce draughts.

Installation
The 9×6 AirLiner Set fits a standard 9×6 inch ventilator brick opening (229×152mm). For new build, form the opening during construction. For retrofit, remove the existing ventilator and use the opening as formed.
Insert the telescopic sleeve through the wall opening from the external face, adjusting the length to suit the wall thickness (250–404mm). The sleeve should span the full wall thickness with the external grille face flush with or slightly proud of the external wall face. Fix the sleeve in position. Fit the internal hit & miss grille to the internal face of the sleeve. Check that the hit & miss mechanism operates freely and that the external grille is correctly seated and clear of mortar or debris.
