Entry Level — Sound Absorption Class D (Wedge, Sawtooth, F.A.T., Pyramid)The entry-level 12" tiles are 40mm profiles achieving NRC 0.55–0.60 (Sound Absorption Class D), providing effective absorption across the mid and high frequency range — the frequencies most responsible for flutter echo and reverberation in untreated recording, broadcast, and vocal environments. At 40mm, absorption increases progressively toward higher frequencies, making entry-level tiles most effective at controlling the high-frequency reflections and flutter echo that are the primary acoustic problem in podcast studios, vocal booths, home studios, and broadcast spaces. Low-frequency performance (250Hz) is limited at 40mm depth; where low-mid frequency reverberation is also a problem, mid-tier or high-performance tiles are the appropriate specification.
The Wedge and Sawtooth tiles both achieve NRC 0.60 and provide the highest coverage per pack in the range at 2.23m² (24 tiles), making them the most cost-efficient option for treating large wall areas. The F.A.T. tile uses the classic egg-crate profile — one of the original acoustic foam formats — and achieves NRC 0.55; the lower NRC relative to the wedge profile at the same nominal thickness reflects the reduced effective foam depth created by the void space between peaks. The Pyramid tile achieves NRC 0.55 and requires the most precision-intensive CNC cutting process in the entry-level range, producing the bold geometric tip geometry of the pyramid profile. Profile selection between these four tiles is primarily aesthetic — acoustic performance at equivalent NRC is comparable across all entry-level profiles.
Mid Tier — Sound Absorption Class C (Cube, AeroFoil, Mini Wave, Euphonic Wedge Standard, Slider)The mid-tier 12" tiles are 55–68mm profiles achieving NRC 0.75–0.85 (Sound Absorption Class C), providing effective broadband absorption from 500Hz upward with meaningfully stronger low-mid frequency performance than 40mm entry-level tiles. Mid-tier tiles are appropriate where entry-level profiles have proved insufficient — particularly in rooms with persistent mid-frequency reverberation, or where the recording source carries significant energy in the 500Hz–1kHz range. The additional depth relative to 40mm tiles delivers improved absorption at 250Hz, partially addressing the low-frequency build-up that entry-level tiles leave uncorrected.
The Cube tile achieves NRC 0.75 at 57mm with a bold geometric grid profile; the AeroFoil achieves NRC 0.75 at 68mm — the deepest tile in the standard range — with a swept, aerodynamic profile.
The Slider tile achieves the highest NRC in the mid tier at 0.85 (65mm), with a flat 1.00 absorption response from 1kHz to 4kHz. The Euphonic Wedge Standard is the only mixed-profile tile in the range, combining 8 wedge tiles (40mm) and 8 plain-face bevel tiles (55mm) in a single pack to achieve NRC 0.80 with a varied surface texture. The Mini Wave tile uses a 60mm wave profile; formal NRC test data is not available for this profile.
High Performance — Sound Absorption Class B (Tegular, Baby HexaTile, Pyramid PRO)The high-performance 12" tiles are 55–75mm profiles achieving NRC 0.90–0.95 (Sound Absorption Class B), providing comprehensive broadband absorption from 500Hz upward suited to recording studios, control rooms, mixing and mastering environments, and professional facilities requiring a controlled acoustic environment for critical listening. At NRC 0.95, the Tegular and Baby HexaTile deliver strong absorption from 500Hz — 1.10 at 500Hz, 1.12 at 1kHz — making them highly effective at the lower-mid frequencies that thinner profiles address less thoroughly.
The Tegular tile uses a flat-face profile with a four-sided bevel cut that produces a clean, minimal grid pattern when installed edge to edge — suited to professional and mixing environments where a restrained architectural aesthetic is preferred alongside Class B performance.
The Baby HexaTile uses a precision CNC-cut hexagonal format with a six-sided bevel, producing a seamless continuous pattern across the wall surface suited to recording studios and home studios where a contemporary aesthetic is preferred. Both achieve NRC 0.95 at 55mm.
The Pyramid PRO delivers NRC 0.90 at 75mm — the greatest foam depth in the range — with stronger low-frequency performance than the 55mm Class B tiles as a result of the additional depth. Where maximum low-frequency absorption within the 12" tile format is the requirement, the Pyramid PRO is the appropriate specification.
Choosing Between Profiles
At equivalent NRC and thickness, all foam profiles deliver comparable acoustic results in a real-world installation. The choice between profiles within the same performance tier is primarily aesthetic — determined by the wall finish and visual result preferred for the installation environment. The key performance variables are NRC and foam depth, not profile geometry. All tiles across the 12" Acoustic Foam Tile range share a common construction specification: 30kg/m³ open-cell polyurethane acoustic foam, precision CNC cut, meeting Crib 5 and Schedule 1, Part 1 of the Furnishings and Furniture (Fire)(Safety) Regulations 1988 (amended 1989). Most tiles measure 305 × 305mm and are available in Mid Grey and Dark Grey unless noted otherwise on the individual product page. Manufactured in the Advanced Acoustics UK facility and shipped uncompressed from stock.
