Advanced Acoustics 4" Acousti-Slab Acoustic Foam Treatment Panel

The Advanced Acoustics Acousti-Slab 4" is a 100mm open-cell polyurethane acoustic foam panel, measuring 2ft × 4ft (610mm × 1220mm). The panel achieves NRC 1.15 (Sound Absorption Class A) — the highest rating in the Acousti-Slab range — providing exceptional broadband absorption with the strongest low-frequency performance of any panel in the range. Each panel covers 0.74m² (8sqft). Available unmounted or mounted to a 6mm MDF substrate.

NRC values above 1.00 occur in standardised reverberation chamber testing as a result of edge diffraction effects — the panel absorbs energy beyond its physical surface area at certain frequencies, which is a recognised characteristic of deep, high-density absorbers tested under ISO 354 conditions. Absorption at all measured frequencies exceeds 1.00: 1.17 at 250Hz, 1.27 at 500Hz, 1.09 at 1kHz, 1.12 at 2kHz, and 1.12 at 4kHz. Available in Mid Grey and Dark Grey. Manufactured in the UK.

Applications

Professional studios and mastering rooms — maximum broadband absorption.
The 4" Acousti-Slab is the appropriate specification for professional environments where the most thorough available broadband absorption within a flat foam panel is required. The 1.17 at 250Hz delivers low-frequency absorption that significantly exceeds all other panels in the Acousti-Slab range — the 3" panel achieves 0.83 at 250Hz, the 2" panel 0.45 — making the 4" the most effective flat panel in the range for controlling the low-frequency reverberation and room colouration that shallower panels leave partially untreated. Install on primary reflection points and extend to secondary surfaces as required. Use the Coverage Calculator to determine the number of panels required.

Bass treatment supplementation.
While dedicated bass traps in room corners remain the most efficient approach to low-frequency room mode control, the 4" Acousti-Slab provides a level of broadband low-frequency absorption — 1.17 at 250Hz — that is useful in environments where corner bass traps alone are insufficient, or where distributed low-frequency absorption across wall surfaces is required alongside corner treatment. The 100mm depth begins to address frequencies in the 250Hz range that shallower flat panels cannot treat effectively.

Custom acoustic installations — maximum performance fabric-wrapped panels.
The unmounted 4" Acousti-Slab is the appropriate base material for fabric-wrapped acoustic panels where the highest available performance from a flat foam core is required. The 100mm depth and NRC 1.15 make this the premium specification for professional fabric panel installations in recording studios, mastering facilities, and commercial acoustic environments. Custom sizes are available on request.

Product Benefits

NRC 1.15 / Sound Absorption Class A — maximum performance in the Acousti-Slab range.
The 100mm foam core achieves NRC 1.15 (Class A), with absorption exceeding 1.00 at all measured frequencies: 1.17 at 250Hz, 1.27 at 500Hz, 1.09 at 1000Hz, 1.12 at 2000Hz, and 1.12 at 4000Hz. The 1.17 at 250Hz is the strongest low-frequency result in the Acousti-Slab range by a significant margin, making the 4" the appropriate specification where low-frequency performance is a priority alongside comprehensive mid and high frequency control. The 4" Acousti-Slab is the deepest flat foam panel in the Advanced Acoustics range.

Unmounted and mounted-to-MDF formats.
The unmounted panel is bare foam suitable for direct adhesive fixing, trimming, or fabric wrapping. The mounted panel is pre-fixed to a 6mm MDF substrate for wall hanging using mirror plates. The mounted format provides a rigid, repositionable panel without the use of contact adhesive. Both formats are available in Mid Grey and Dark Grey.

Specification and compliance.
30kg/m³ foam density. Crib 5 and Schedule 1, Part 1 of the Furnishings and Furniture (Fire)(Safety) Regulations 1988 (amended 1989). Panel size 610mm × 1220mm × 100mm (2ft × 4ft × 4"). 0.74m² (8sqft) coverage per panel. 3.6kg unmounted, 7.2kg mounted. Mid Grey and Dark Grey. Custom sizes available on request. Manufactured in the UK and shipped uncompressed from stock.

Installation

Unmounted panels — adhesive fixing.
Apply Advanced Acoustics High Strength Contact Adhesive to both the back of the panel and the wall surface. Apply a band of adhesive around the perimeter and 50–75% coverage of the remaining surface area; repeat on the wall. Allow to become touch-dry before bringing surfaces together — contact adhesive bonds on contact, so position the panel carefully before pressing it to the wall. The adhesive is solvent-based; ensure adequate ventilation throughout installation.

Unmounted panels — demountable installation.
For a temporary or demountable installation, mount the panel onto 6mm MDF or plywood sheet and hang using D-rings and picture hooks. For ceiling-mounted panels, use four mirror plates per panel. This allows panels to be removed and repositioned without damage to the wall surface.

Mounted-to-MDF panels.
Fix mirror plates to the wall at the appropriate centres using suitable fixings for the wall substrate. Hang the panel on the mirror plates. The mounted panel can be removed and rehung without tools.

Performance Data

4" Acousti-Slab Acoustic Foam Panel

Installing our acoustic foam panels is very simple. The first step to take is to work out your preferred layout of acoustic panels. Do a sketch on paper first to make sure that the layout looks right and you have enough acoustic foam and space for your planned design.

Once the acoustic panels are mounted to the wall or ceiling they are hard to remove so it is important to get the layout right before you begin. Once you have a sketch of the layout you plan you can then mark up the wall with the layout. You can either use pencil, masking tape or lasers to layout the design on the wall or ceiling.

When mounting the acoustic panels to the wall apply Advanced Acoustics Contact Adhesive to both the back of the panel and the mounting surface. There is no need to heavily cover the acoustic foam or wall with adhesive, a band of adhesive around the perimeter of the tile along with 50% - 75% coverage of the rest of the acoustic panel will be fine. Use the same equivalent amount on the wall. Avoid overspray on the tile and the wall so that adhesive can’t be seen when the panels are in place. Masking Tape on the wall will help with this. If you do get webbing overspray on the foam panel, don’t touch it, allow it to dry, in most cases you will be able to peel the adhesive off.

The adhesive we supply is solvent based so we recommend that you keep all doors of the room and any windows open whilst completing the installation.

If you prefer to have a more temporary installation of acoustic panels there is the option to have the panels pre-mounted onto 6mm MDF. This will enable you to hang the panels on the wall using a D-Ring (not supplied) and picture hook for a damage free installation. If fitting them to a ceiling then 4 mirror plates (not supplied) would be required.
