Kubrick Ceiling Mounted Acoustic Panel | 690 × 1200mm | NRC 0.75 | Class C

The Advanced Acoustics Kubrick Ceiling Mounted Acoustic Panel is a shaped acoustic panel from the Advanced Acoustics Designer Range, designed to be fixed directly to the ceiling surface. The Kubrick profile is a geometric form derived from the isometric cube illusion: when multiple panels are clustered across a ceiling surface using tonal variations of the same colour, the arrangement creates a three-dimensional depth effect that makes the ceiling appear to recede into a larger, more complex space. The panel consists of a 25mm open-cell acoustic foam core mounted on a rigid 6mm MDF backing board, wrapped in a 100% recycled open-weave polyester cloth available in 31 colours.

The Kubrick measures 690 × 1200mm, providing 0.41m² of absorption per panel. The elongated format is suited to ceiling installations where panels are arranged in a tessellating cluster across the ceiling surface, with tonal colour groupings used to reinforce the three-dimensional visual effect. The 25mm foam core achieves NRC 0.75 (Sound Absorption Class C), providing effective absorption of mid and high frequencies appropriate for controlling speech-frequency reverberation in office, commercial, and educational environments.

Applications

  • Tonal 3D ceiling installations. The Kubrick panel is designed to be installed in multiples across a ceiling surface, with panels in two or three tones of the same colour arranged in a tessellating pattern that creates the isometric cube depth effect. The visual impact of the installation increases with the number of panels and the tonal contrast between the colour groups used. The effect is most pronounced when viewed from directly below the installation.
  • Open-plan offices — reverberation and echo control. Install across the ceiling to reduce reverberation time and improve speech intelligibility. The Kubrick's geometric profile and tonal depth effect create a visually engaging ceiling installation that integrates naturally into contemporary office interiors, providing acoustic absorption at the ceiling plane without the utilitarian appearance of standard rectangular panel grids.
  • Meeting rooms and boardrooms. A composed Kubrick cluster on the ceiling of a meeting room or boardroom provides meaningful absorption coverage while creating a distinctive ceiling feature. The tonal depth effect is well suited to premium interior specifications where a considered, designed ceiling installation is required.
  • Educational environments — dining halls, assembly halls, and lecture theatres. The Kubrick's geometric profile and large format make it suited to larger educational spaces where significant ceiling coverage is required alongside a visually engaging installation.
  • Hospitality and commercial interiors. The Kubrick's tonal depth effect makes it suited to hospitality environments — restaurants, bars, and hotel lobbies — where acoustic ceiling treatment is required alongside a premium interior finish.

Product Benefits

  • NRC 0.75 — effective mid and high frequency absorption. The 25mm foam core achieves NRC 0.75 (Sound Absorption Class C), with strong absorption from 500Hz upward: 0.65 at 500Hz, 0.94 at 1000Hz, 1.13 at 2000Hz, and 0.99 at 4000Hz. Effective for controlling speech-frequency reverberation from the ceiling plane. Low-frequency absorption is more limited (0.30 at 250Hz).
  • Class '0' fire-rated construction — compliant for commercial use. The acoustic foam core is Class '0' rated to BS 476 Parts 6 and 7, and C s1, d0 to EN 13501-1, meeting commercial fire safety requirements for ceiling-mounted acoustic treatment in offices, schools, and public buildings.
  • 100% recycled open-weave polyester cloth — 31 colour options. The open-weave polyester cloth is produced from 100% recycled fibre, maintaining full acoustic transparency while providing a durable, abrasion-resistant surface finish. Available in 31 colours — download the swatch card for the full range. The tonal depth effect is achieved by selecting two or three tones of the same colour from the available range.
  • Mirror plate ceiling fixing — supplied with hardware. Supplied with mirror plate fixing hardware for direct ceiling attachment. Mirror plate fixing provides a flush, secure ceiling mount suitable for permanent installations on solid ceiling structure or appropriate noggins.
  • 690 × 1200mm format — large tessellating panels for impactful ceiling coverage. At 0.41m² per panel, the Kubrick provides substantial coverage per fixing point. The elongated format tessellates efficiently across the ceiling surface, and the large panel size means that a relatively small number of panels creates a visually impactful installation.
  • Handmade in the UK — consistent quality across every panel. All Designer Range panels are handmade in the Advanced Acoustics UK facility using consistent materials and construction methods, ensuring uniform acoustic performance and finish quality across every panel in an installation.

Please note: All Designer Range panels are made to order with a 2–3 week lead time.

Installation

Plan the tessellating layout and colour groupings on paper or digitally before marking fixing positions on the ceiling. Ensure fixing positions are located on solid ceiling structure or appropriate noggins — do not fix into plasterboard alone without appropriate cavity fixings. Check for concealed services (electrical cables, pipework) before drilling into the ceiling. Due to the panel size, two people are recommended for installation.

For mirror plate fixing: screw the mirror plate to the ceiling at the marked position using appropriate fixings for the ceiling construction, and attach the panel to the mirror plate. Check that the panel sits flush and level before finalising the fixing position.

Mark all fixing positions before installing any panels to ensure the tessellating layout is correctly set out across the ceiling surface.

Our Office Acoustic Panels are very easy to install. They are supplied with mirror plates in order for you to mount the acoustic panels to the wall or ceiling. The only thing that isn’t supplied are the screws and plugs. The correct fixing method depends on whether you are fixing to plasterboard, brick or concrete. Check with an experienced tradesman if you aren’t sure what fixing method is best. The acoustic panels are relatively light so you will only need to use 30mm long screws to mount the panels with.

Sometimes the panels are shipped with the mirror plates facing inwards to protect them during shipping. Before attempting to mount the panels you may need to turn the plates around so that the mounting hole is exposed.

Offer up the panel in the location where you wish to fit it. Mark the wall with a pencil where the fixings need to go. Drill the holes with a suitable drill bit and insert the plugs. Offer up the panel again and fix into place with your choice of screws. Repeat until all panels are fitted.

If the panels are intended to be butted up to each other you may need to relocate the mirror plates so that they don’t foul on each other. If you are fitting the panels in rows install the bottom row of panels first and sit the next row of panels on top. In this case slide the next panel in place. Any mirror plates that will be covered by the row below can just sit between the panel and the mounting surface. Use all the remaining mirror plates that you have access to to mount the panel in place.
