Silent Panel 10kg/50mm — MLV & Acoustic Foam Composite Panel

The Silent Panel 10kg/50mm is the highest-specification panel in the Silent Panel range. It combines a 50mm layer of 90kg/m³ high-density acoustic foam with a 10kg/m² mass loaded vinyl barrier — double the MLV mass of the 5kg variants — factory bonded and finished with a self-adhesive backing for direct installation onto walls and ceilings.

The 10kg/50mm delivers a Sound Reduction Index of 36dB, 6dB higher than the 5kg/50mm. In acoustic terms, 6dB represents approximately four times the reduction in sound intensity — a meaningful step up in performance for applications where the 5kg specification would be insufficient. The absorption performance is identical to the 5kg/50mm: both panels use the same 50mm foam layer at 90kg/m³, achieving NRC 0.75 and Sound Absorption Class C. The distinction between them is entirely in transmission loss, driven by the heavier MLV barrier.

Choose the 10kg/50mm where the noise source is high-intensity, where regulatory or planning noise limits are strict, where the 5kg variants have been assessed and found marginal, or where maximum transmission loss is the primary specification requirement regardless of weight or profile constraints. At 10.1kg per panel, it is a substantial installation — but where the application demands it, no other panel in the range will deliver equivalent blocking performance.

Where to Use the Silent Panel 10kg/50mm

The 10kg/50mm is designed for the most demanding enclosure and acoustic isolation applications, where noise intensity is high, containment requirements are strict, or the consequences of underspecification are significant.

  • Engine rooms and high-output generator enclosures — large diesel generators, high-capacity industrial engines, and standby power systems generate intense broadband noise with strong low-frequency content. The 36dB SRI of the 10kg/50mm provides the transmission loss required to contain this level of noise output effectively, where a 5kg panel would leave a significant performance gap.
  • Industrial compressor and pump enclosures — industrial compressors operating at high duty cycles produce sustained high-intensity noise. The 10kg/50mm provides the combination of maximum transmission loss and high mid-frequency absorption needed to contain compressor noise to acceptable levels in occupied or adjacent workspaces.
  • Plant rooms with strict noise limits — where planning conditions, building regulations, or occupational noise requirements impose specific noise level targets in adjacent spaces, the 10kg/50mm provides the highest available transmission loss in a single self-adhesive panel. The 36dB SRI enables more demanding specifications to be met without resorting to multi-layer wall constructions.
  • Server rooms and data centres with intensive cooling infrastructure — large-scale server infrastructure with high-capacity cooling systems generates significant broadband noise. Where the volume of equipment or the intensity of cooling noise exceeds what the 5kg variants can adequately contain, the 10kg/50mm provides the additional transmission loss required.
  • Custom acoustic enclosures for high-intensity noise sources — where bespoke enclosures are being specified around noise sources that exceed the capability of standard composite panels, the 10kg/50mm provides the maximum performance available from the SilentPanel range in a single-layer installation.

Product Benefits

  • 36dB sound reduction — the highest SRI in the SilentPanel range. The 10kg/m² MLV barrier delivers 36dB of transmission loss, 6dB above the 5kg variants. That 6dB step represents approximately four times the reduction in sound intensity, providing meaningful additional performance where high-intensity noise sources make the 5kg specification insufficient.
  • NRC 0.75 and Sound Absorption Class C. The 50mm, 90kg/m³ foam layer provides the same high absorption performance as the 5kg/50mm panel, reaching an absorption coefficient of 1.00 at 4000Hz and 0.45 at 250Hz. Combined with the 36dB SRI, the 10kg/50mm addresses both transmission and reflection without requiring additional absorption treatment.
  • 10kg/m² mass loaded vinyl for maximum transmission loss. The performance of a soundproofing barrier is determined primarily by its mass. At 10kg/m², the MLV layer in this panel is the heaviest specification available in the SilentPanel range and delivers transmission loss accordingly. Where mass is the limiting factor in enclosure performance, this is the correct specification.
  • 90kg/m³ foam density for sustained, long-term performance. High-density foam maintains its acoustic properties under load and over time. At 90kg/m³ it significantly outperforms standard acoustic foam in both absorption efficiency and structural integrity, ensuring the panel continues to perform correctly over the life of the installation.
  • Comprehensive fire certification for commercial and industrial installation. Rated Class 0 under UK building regulations (BS 476 pt 6 & 7), UL94 V-0, Class 1 Surface Spread of Flame, and Class A under ASTM E84-95. Meets the fire compliance requirements for commercial, industrial, and public building applications.
  • Self-adhesive installation. Factory-applied adhesive backing allows direct installation onto prepared surfaces. Each panel covers 0.72m², making coverage calculations straightforward for any enclosure geometry.

Installation

The mounting surface must be clean, dry, and free from oil, dust, and defects before installation. Priming with Advanced Acoustics High Bond Contact Adhesive before offering the panel into position is strongly recommended and particularly important on painted, powder-coated, or porous surfaces. At 10.1kg per panel this is the heaviest product in the SilentPanel range — ensure the mounting surface is structurally sound and fully capable of supporting the panel weight before installation. Do not install onto surfaces with any movement, flex, or delamination.
