Custom Enclosures

Effective acoustic enclosures require two things: a barrier to block sound transmission through the panel wall, and absorption to prevent sound building up inside the enclosure and finding alternative exit points. The Silent Panel Range combines both in a single self-adhesive composite panel, available in three specifications to match the intensity of the noise source and the performance requirement of the application.

Choosing the Right SilentPanel Specification

The three panels in this collection share the same high-density 90kg/m³ foam and the same fire certification but differ in MLV mass and foam thickness. Selecting the correct specification requires understanding what each variant does well and where each has limitations.

The SilentPanel 5kg/25mm is the most profile-efficient option at 28mm total thickness. With an SRI of 31dB and NRC of 0.45, it is appropriate for moderate noise sources where space is limited and high-frequency noise is the primary concern. Server rooms, small plant rooms, and enclosures around lower-output equipment are typical applications.

The SilentPanel 5kg/50mm doubles the foam thickness, improving NRC from 0.45 to 0.75 and lifting Sound Absorption Class from D to C. Low-frequency absorption at 250Hz nearly doubles compared to the 5kg/25mm, making it significantly more effective against machinery and equipment with strong low or mid-frequency noise content. SRI remains comparable at 30dB. Choose this where absorption performance is the priority and the noise source has a broader frequency profile.

The SilentPanel 10kg/50mm retains the 50mm foam layer of the 5kg/50mm — and therefore the same absorption performance — but doubles the MLV mass to 10kg/m². This pushes the SRI to 36dB, approximately four times the sound reduction intensity of the 5kg variants. This is the correct specification for high-output noise sources, applications with strict planning or regulatory noise limits, or any enclosure where the 5kg panels have been assessed and found insufficient.

Sizing Your Enclosure

Calculate the total internal wall and ceiling surface area of your enclosure in square metres. Divide by 0.72 to determine the number of panels required and add 10% for cuts and waste. For straightforward rectangular enclosures, length x height x number of walls, plus length x width for the ceiling, gives the total area. Panels can be cut to size on site.

Installation

All SilentPanel products are self-adhesive and install directly onto prepared surfaces. The mounting surface must be clean, dry, and free from oil, dust, and defects. Priming with Advanced Acoustics High Bond Contact Adhesive before installation is strongly recommended, particularly on painted, powder-coated, or porous surfaces. For the 10kg/50mm, verify the structural integrity of the mounting surface before installation — at 10.1kg per panel it is a substantial load.
