2" SoundControl Ceiling Mounted Acoustic Panel 2ft by 4ft

• Ceiling treatment requiring maximum broadband absorption per panel. The 2" 2ft × 4ft is the highest-performance, highest-coverage format in the SoundControl ceiling range. It is the appropriate specification where Class A broadband absorption is required and the ceiling layout can accommodate the larger panel dimension, minimising the total number of panels and fixing points needed.
• Open-plan offices — broadband reverberation control. In open-plan environments, the ceiling is a primary reflective surface. The 2" SoundControl provides strong absorption from 250Hz upward at the ceiling plane. The 2ft × 4ft format is suited to row arrangements along the length of larger open-plan spaces, providing maximum Class A coverage per row of panels.
• Meeting rooms and boardrooms. The 2ft × 4ft format is suited to larger meeting rooms and boardrooms where the ceiling area can accommodate the longer panel dimension. A small number of panels can provide the required Class A absorption coverage, reducing the total number of fixing points required.
• Spaces with limited wall area. Where wall surfaces are largely occupied by windows, glazed partitions, or other obstructions, ceiling treatment must carry a greater proportion of the total absorption load. The 2" 2ft × 4ft panel combines the highest NRC performance with the largest coverage area in the ceiling range, making it the most effective single-panel specification for spaces where ceiling treatment must compensate for limited wall coverage.
• Educational environments — classrooms and lecture spaces. The 2ft × 4ft format is suited to row arrangements across the ceiling of larger classrooms and lecture theatres, providing maximum Class A coverage per row and reducing the total number of panels and fixing points required.

• NRC 1.00 — Class A broadband absorption. The 2" (50mm) foam core achieves NRC 1.00 (Sound Absorption Class A), with strong absorption across the full speech frequency range: 0.61 at 250Hz, 1.03 at 500Hz, 1.16 at 1000Hz, 1.11 at 2000Hz, and 1.10 at 4000Hz. The significantly improved low-frequency performance at 250Hz (0.61 vs 0.30 for the 1" panel) makes the 2" panel the appropriate specification where low-mid frequency reverberation control is required.
• Class '0' fire-rated foam core — compliant for commercial use. The acoustic foam core is Class '0' rated to BS 476 Parts 6 and 7, and C s1, d0 to EN 13501-1, meeting commercial fire safety requirements for ceiling-mounted acoustic treatment in offices, schools, and public buildings.
• Open-weave polyester fabric wrap — 31 colour options. The open-weave polyester fabric allows sound to pass through to the foam core without significant attenuation, maintaining the full NRC 1.00 performance across the entire colour range. • Mirror plate ceiling fixing — supplied with hardware. Supplied with mirror plate fixing hardware for direct ceiling attachment. Mirror plate fixing provides a flush, secure ceiling mount suitable for permanent installations on solid ceiling structure or appropriate noggins.
• 2ft × 4ft format — maximum Class A coverage per panel. At 0.74m² per panel, the 2ft × 4ft is the largest format in the 2" SoundControl ceiling range, providing the greatest absorption coverage per fixing point and the most efficient specification for large ceiling areas requiring Class A performance.
• Handmade in the UK — consistent quality across every panel. All SoundControl panels are handmade in the Advanced Acoustics UK facility using consistent materials and construction methods, ensuring uniform acoustic performance and finish quality across every panel in an installation.

Mark the fixing positions on the ceiling using the panel dimensions as a guide. Ensure fixing positions are located on solid ceiling structure or appropriate noggins — do not fix into plasterboard alone without appropriate cavity fixings. Check for concealed services (electrical cables, pipework) before drilling into the ceiling. Due to the panel size, two people are recommended for installation.

For mirror plate fixing: screw the mirror plate to the ceiling at the marked position using appropriate fixings for the ceiling construction, and attach the panel to the mirror plate. Check that the panel sits flush and level before finalising the fixing position.

For grid installations, use a chalk line or laser level to ensure consistent alignment and equal spacing between panels across the ceiling surface. Mark all fixing positions before installing any panels to ensure the grid is correctly laid out.

Can ceiling mounted panels be fixed to a suspended ceiling grid?

Ceiling mounted panels are designed for direct attachment to a solid or plasterboard ceiling surface. They are not designed to drop into a suspended ceiling grid. For suspended ceiling installations, the ceiling suspended format — which hangs from steel wire rope fixed above the ceiling grid — is the appropriate choice, as it does not require structural fixings into the ceiling tiles themselves.

Can I order panels in a custom size?

Yes. Custom sized panels are available across the SoundControl range. Contact us with your required dimensions and we will provide a quote. Most custom orders are straightforward modifications of the standard sizes and carry the same 2–3 week lead time. Can I see the fabric colours before I order?

A PDF swatch card showing all available fabric colours is available to download here. If you would like a physical fabric sample before committing to a colour, contact us and we will send one out. Given the 2–3 week lead time on all made-to-order panels, confirming the colour against your interior before ordering is worthwhile.

Will acoustic panels actually make a noticeable difference to our office?

In a hard-surfaced office with plasterboard walls, a solid ceiling, and a concrete or hard floor — the standard construction of most commercial fit-outs — reverberation times are typically well above the recommended level for speech intelligibility. Acoustic panels absorb the reflected energy that accumulates in those surfaces, reducing reverberation time and improving clarity. The result is a room where conversations are clearer, background noise feels less intrusive, and sustained concentration is easier. The improvement in a standard office environment is significant and immediately noticeable.
