Expanding Foam Tape | Self-Adhesive | Various Sizes | 25mm Wide

Expanding foam tape is a pre-compressed, self-adhesive impregnated foam tape used to create acoustic, thermal, and weatherproof seals in construction joints. The tape is supplied in a compressed state and expands after application to fill the joint, conforming to uneven surfaces and accommodating movement over time. The sealing performance of the tape is determined by its compression ratio within the joint — partial compression provides air and dust sealing, while higher compression levels are required for acoustic attenuation and resistance to wind-driven rain. At 50% compression, the tape provides acoustic and thermal sealing; at 75% compression, it provides resistance to wind-driven rain at a minimum of 600 Pa, equivalent to wind force 11.

The tape is impregnated with a fire-resistant polymeric dispersion and complies with DIN 18542 BG 1 and DIN 18055, covering joints in buildings up to 100m in height. It is CE-certified, manufactured to ISO 9001 quality standards, and independently tested by ift Rosenheim for driving rain resistance and air permeability. The tape is permanently elastic, vapour-diffusion permeable, and compatible with all standard building materials. It can be overpainted with standard emulsion paints. A 10-year performance guarantee applies. Four size variants are available, each supplied as a single roll 25mm wide, covering compressed-to-expanded thickness ranges of 5–12mm, 9–20mm, 18–34mm, and 24–42mm.

Applications

  • Acoustic door installations — seal the perimeter gap between the door frame and the surrounding structure using expanding foam tape before fixing the frame. The 5mm nominal gap between the frame and the structural opening must be fully sealed to prevent flanking noise around the door assembly. Use in conjunction with AC95 Acoustic Sealant to maintain both acoustic and fire integrity at the frame perimeter. Select the tape size appropriate to the actual joint width — for a 5mm joint, the EXP5/12 variant compressed to 50% or above is appropriate.
  • Window and door perimeter seals (fenestration) — apply to the joint between the window or door frame and the surrounding masonry or structural opening. The tape accommodates thermal movement in the joint while maintaining a continuous seal against air infiltration, wind-driven rain, and acoustic transmission. Complies with DIN 18055 requirements for fenestration joints.
  • Acoustic floor and ceiling perimeters — apply around the perimeter of floating floor assemblies and independent ceiling constructions to isolate the floating layer from the surrounding wall structure. Preventing direct contact between the floating element and the structure eliminates the rigid connection through which structure-borne sound would otherwise transmit, maintaining the acoustic separation of the assembly.
  • Service penetrations — seal gaps around pipes, conduits, and services where they pass through walls or floors. The tape conforms to irregular surfaces and accommodates the geometry of penetrations where sealant alone may be difficult to apply consistently.
  • Prefabricated and modular construction — seal joints between prefabricated concrete panels, cladding panels, curtain walling, and modular building units. The tape accommodates diurnal movement in joints and maintains a continuous seal against wind, dust, and driving rain across the service life of the building.

Product Benefits

  • Compression-dependent sealing performance — acoustic and weatherproof at 50–75% compression. The tape’s sealing performance scales with compression ratio. At 30% compression it provides dust and airflow sealing; at 50% compression it provides acoustic attenuation and thermal sealing; at 75% compression it provides resistance to wind-driven rain at 600 Pa minimum. For acoustic applications, the tape must be installed into a joint that compresses it to at least 50% of its expanded thickness — joint sizing is therefore critical to performance.
  • Pre-compressed supply — expands to approximately 5× compressed thickness. The tape is supplied in a compressed state for ease of handling and application. Once the roll is opened, the tape begins to expand. It should be installed into the joint before it reaches its full expanded thickness — for acoustic and weatherproofing applications, the joint should constrain the tape to no more than its rated expanded maximum. For example, EXP24/42 is supplied at 24mm compressed and should not be allowed to expand beyond 42mm in service.
  • Four size variants — joints from 1mm to 42mm. The range covers compressed-to-expanded thickness ranges of 5–12mm, 9–20mm, 18–34mm, and 24–42mm, allowing the correct tape to be selected for the actual joint width on site. Select the variant whose expanded range encompasses the target joint width at the required compression ratio.
  • Permanently elastic with long-term movement accommodation. The tape remains elastic throughout its service life, accommodating thermal and structural movement in joints without cracking, debonding, or losing seal integrity. This makes it suitable for use in joints subject to diurnal movement, including fenestration perimeters and cladding panel joints.
  • DIN 18542 BG 1 and DIN 18055 compliant — CE certified. Independently tested by ift Rosenheim for driving rain resistance and air permeability. Manufactured to ISO 9001 quality standards with regular controls from independent institutions. Suitable for use in joints in buildings up to 100m in height. 10-year performance guarantee.
  • Vapour-diffusion permeable and compatible with all standard building materials. The tape does not create a vapour barrier, allowing moisture vapour to diffuse through the joint in both directions. Compatible with timber, masonry, concrete, steel, PVC, and all other standard building materials. Can be overpainted with standard emulsion paints once installed.

Installation

Ensure the joint surfaces are clean, dry, and free from dust, grease, and loose material before application. The tape will not bond reliably to contaminated or wet surfaces.

Select the correct tape variant for the joint width. The tape should be sized so that, when installed, the joint compresses it to the required compression ratio for the intended application — a minimum of 50% compression for acoustic and thermal sealing, and 75% for wind-driven rain resistance.

Peel back the release liner and press the adhesive face of the tape firmly against one side of the joint. Work along the joint in a continuous run, avoiding gaps or overlaps. Do not stretch the tape during application. Once positioned, allow the tape to expand into the joint — do not force it to expand faster than its natural rate. For joints where the tape must be constrained to a specific expanded thickness, fix the opposing surface before the tape reaches its maximum expansion.

For acoustic door frame installations, apply the tape to the frame perimeter before fixing the frame into the structural opening. Ensure the tape is fully compressed by the frame-to-structure contact before fixing is completed. Seal any remaining gaps at the perimeter with AC95 Acoustic Sealant.
