A Practical Concrete Floor Build-Up for Moderate Impact Noise Reduction (Carpet Finish)

Our Essential Concrete Floor Soundproofing System – Carpet is a practical upgrade for concrete floors where you want to reduce impact noise such as footfall and general vibration, with a modest improvement in airborne noise. This system combines 10kg MLV with 3mm Terrac Rubber Underlayment, an 18mm STS TG4 structural overlay, and Silent Floor Ultra Acoustic Underlay under the carpet finish.

To make things easier, our online calculator works out the quantities required for your project, with an additional 5% already allowed for waste.

Designed for Concrete Floors with a Carpet Finish

Concrete floors are already relatively good for airborne sound compared to timber floors, but they can still transmit impact noise effectively. This Essential system is designed primarily to reduce impact noise and improve acoustic comfort, while remaining a practical build-up for carpet finishes.

The build-up consists of:

  • 1 layer of 10kg MLV (Soundproofing Mat)
  • 3mm Terrac Rubber Underlayment
  • 18mm STS TG4 Acoustic Floorboard
  • Silent Floor Ultra Acoustic Underlay
  • Everbuild AC95 Acoustic Sealant
  • Jointing Tape
  • Contact Adhesive

The finished build-up is approximately 37mm overall, excluding the carpet finish.

Important Supply Information

All components required for this system are supplied by us as part of the calculator output. The only items you need to source separately are suitable fixings for your floor type and the carpet finish itself.

How the System Works

This system combines mass and impact isolation in a practical build-up:

  • 10kg MLV adds dense mass to help reduce airborne sound transmission through the floor structure
  • 3mm Terrac Rubber Underlayment provides an acoustic isolation layer beneath the overlay board, helping to reduce impact noise transfer into the structure
  • 18mm STS TG4 Acoustic Floorboard creates a stable, structural overlay deck for the finished floor build-up
  • Silent Floor Ultra Acoustic Underlay provides additional impact reduction and comfort directly under the carpet, improving the overall acoustic performance of the finished floor
  • AC95 Acoustic Sealant and Jointing Tape reduce sound leakage through perimeter gaps and board joints

What We Supply

The system calculator works out the estimated quantities required for all soundproofing materials we supply, including:

  • 10kg MLV (Soundproofing Mat)
  • 3mm Terrac Rubber Underlayment
  • 18mm STS TG4 Acoustic Floorboards
  • STS Slow Set PU Adhesive
  • Silent Floor Ultra Acoustic Underlay
  • High Strength Contact Adhesive
  • AC95 Acoustic Sealant
  • PVC Jointing Tape

Fixings and carpet are not included — source these to suit your floor type. We also include an additional 5% allowance for waste in the calculated quantities.

Key Benefits

  • Practical impact noise reduction for concrete floors — 3mm Terrac Rubber Underlayment beneath the overlay board helps reduce footfall and vibration transfer through the floor structure, improving acoustic comfort in the space below
  • 10kg MLV mass layer — adds dense mass to the floor build-up to help reduce airborne sound transmission, complementing the impact isolation provided by the Terrac layer
  • 18mm STS TG4 structural overlay — creates a stable, level substrate over the soundproofing layers, providing a solid base for the carpet finish
  • Silent Floor Ultra Acoustic Underlay — provides additional impact reduction and comfort directly under the carpet, improving the overall acoustic performance of the finished floor
  • Suitable for carpet finishes — the Silent Floor Ultra layer provides acoustic comfort and a suitable substrate directly under the carpet
  • Complete system supply — all components are included in the calculator output except fixings and carpet, so you can order everything needed for your floor soundproofing project in one place
  • Built-in 5% waste allowance — calculator quantities include a 5% overage to account for cuts and waste, reducing the risk of under-ordering on site
  • Check floor height clearances before ordering — this system adds approximately 37mm excluding carpet; verify door and threshold clearances before committing to this build-up

Important Notes

  • This system is designed for concrete floors intended to be finished with carpet
  • It is primarily aimed at impact noise reduction; airborne improvements will be more limited compared to full decoupled ceiling systems
  • Sealant quantities are an approximation only and should be treated as a guide
  • The calculator is provided as a guide only, and final quantities should always be checked before ordering
  • Always check floor height/threshold clearances before ordering (this system adds approx. 37mm)

Installation Summary
