Maximum Timber Floor Upgrade for Loud Noise and Music (Carpet Finish)

Our Pro Timber Floor Soundproofing System – Carpet is our highest performance timber floor build-up for situations where you’re dealing with loud noise, music, or persistent impact noise and need a more serious upgrade.

This system improves performance by upgrading the structural deck (using 22mm STS TG4) and adding decoupling and damping at the joists with Green Glue Joist Tape, before finishing with mass loaded vinyl and a high-performance carpet underlay.

To make things easier, our online calculator works out the quantities required for your project, with an additional 5% already allowed for waste.

Designed for Loud Noise + Music Through Timber Floors (Carpet Finish)

Our Pro Timber Floor Soundproofing System – Carpet is designed for timber floors where you need a higher level of sound reduction than mat and underlay systems can typically provide — particularly for loud airborne noise such as music, bass, TV at higher volume and impact noise. This is an advanced DIY system because it involves lifting the existing floorboards and installing a new structural deck.

The build-up consists of:

  • Remove existing floorboards
  • Green Glue Joist Tape applied to joists
  • 22mm STS TG4 (structural deck)
  • 50mm Cement Board Screws (for fixing the deck)
  • 2 layers of 5kg MLV (Soundproofing Mat)
  • Silent Floor Ultra Underlay
  • AC95 Acoustic Sealant
  • Jointing Tape
  • Contact Adhesive

The finished build-up is approximately 42mm overall.

Important Supply Information

All components required for this system are supplied by us as part of the calculator output.

How the System Works

This system improves floor sound insulation using multiple mechanisms:

  • Joist tape helps reduce vibration transfer at the joists which is a common weak point in timber floors
  • 22mm STS TG4 deck adds stiffness and mass, improving the base structure before adding acoustic layers
  • MLV layers add dense mass to reduce airborne sound transmission
  • Silent Floor Ultra Underlay improves impact reduction and acoustic comfort under carpet
  • AC95 Acoustic Sealant helps close perimeter gaps and weak points
  • Jointing Tape helps seal joints and improve airtightness

What We Supply

The system calculator works out the estimated quantities required for the soundproofing materials we supply, including:

We also include an additional 5% allowance for waste in the calculated quantities.
