MuteClip Acoustic Isolation Clip | 76 × 35 × 29mm
MuteClip is a resilient isolation clip used to build a decoupled ceiling or wall frame. It mounts directly to the existing joist or structural substrate via a single fixing point and accepts MuteClip Channel, which clicks into the body of the clip to create a continuous, decoupled frame onto which plasterboard is fixed. Because the channel and plasterboard are isolated from the structure by the clip’s dual-density rubber polymer pad, vibration from the structure cannot travel directly into the wall or ceiling surface — reducing both impact and airborne sound transmission.
MuteClip is the standard clip in the MuteClip range. The single fixing point per clip minimises structural contact and simplifies installation. At 29mm thick with a total system depth of 40mm, it is suited to standard ceiling and wall applications where a moderate drop is acceptable. Sold individually. MuteClip Channel must be ordered separately and is required to complete the system.
Applications
- Acoustic dropped ceilings — timber and concrete — fix clips to the underside of joists or concrete soffit at the specified centres, click MuteClip Channel into the clips, and fix acoustic plasterboard to the channel. The decoupled frame reduces the transmission of impact noise from above (footfall, washing machines) and airborne noise (music, speech).
- Independent wall systems — used on walls to create a decoupled frame for acoustic plasterboard on party walls, separating walls, and stud partitions. Reduces airborne sound transmission through the wall assembly.
- Metal, timber, brick, and concrete structures — compatible with all common structural substrates. The single fixing point per clip reduces the number of contact points between the decoupled frame and the structure, minimising sound bridging.
- Part E compliant assemblies — the MuteClip system is compliant with Part E Building Regulations (England, Wales, Northern Ireland, and Republic of Ireland) and Building Standards Technical Handbook 2017 (Scotland). Tested performance: 60dB airborne, 35dB impact sound reduction.
Product Benefits
- Dual-density rubber polymer isolation pad. The rubber polymer pad surrounds the single fixing point and buffers the metal clip from the substrate, preventing vibration from bridging directly through the fixing into the frame. Without isolation at the fixing point, structural contact is maintained and performance is significantly reduced.
- Single fixing per clip — minimal contact points. One fixing per clip reduces the number of structural contact points in the assembly, simplifying installation and reducing the risk of inadvertent sound bridges.
- 60dB airborne / 35dB impact sound reduction. Independently tested performance figures for the complete MuteClip system with MuteClip Channel and acoustic plasterboard.
- 40mm total system thickness. The slim profile of the system minimises the overall build-up of the decoupled frame, preserving room dimensions as far as possible.
- Part E and Scottish Building Standards compliant. Suitable for use in separating wall and floor/ceiling assemblies where Building Regulation compliance must be demonstrated.
Installation
Fix MuteClip clips to the structural substrate at the centres specified in the installation guide. Click MuteClip Channel into the clips to form the decoupled frame. Fix acoustic plasterboard to the channel — do not allow the plasterboard or any other element to make direct contact with the surrounding structure, as this will create a sound bridge and reduce performance. Seal all perimeter gaps with AC95 Acoustic Sealant. Download performance data here.
