Advanced Acoustics 1" Acousti-Slab Acoustic Foam Treatment Panel

The Advanced Acoustics Acousti-Slab 1" is a 25mm open-cell polyurethane acoustic foam panel, measuring 2ft × 4ft (610mm × 1220mm). The panel achieves NRC 0.55 (Sound Absorption Class D), providing effective absorption across the mid and high frequency range. Each panel covers 0.74m² (8sqft). The Acousti-Slab is available in two formats: unmounted bare foam, and mounted to a 6mm MDF substrate.

The unmounted panel can be fixed directly to the wall surface using contact adhesive, trimmed to size, or wrapped in open-weave fabric for a more finished appearance. The mounted panel is pre-fixed to 6mm MDF and can be fitted with mirror plates for direct wall hanging without adhesive. Absorption increases with frequency: 0.20 at 250Hz, 0.41 at 500Hz, 0.72 at 1kHz, 0.93 at 2kHz, and 1.06 at 4kHz. Available in Mid Grey and Dark Grey. Manufactured in the UK.

Applications

Home studios and recording spaces — entry-level panel treatment.
The 25mm Acousti-Slab provides effective mid and high frequency absorption suited to home studios where high-frequency flutter echo and reverberation are the primary acoustic problem. The large 2ft × 4ft panel format reduces the number of pieces required to cover a given wall area relative to smaller tile formats, making installation faster and more straightforward. The unmounted format can be trimmed on site to fit non-standard dimensions or wrapped in open-weave fabric to suit the room aesthetic. Use the Coverage Calculator to determine the number of panels required. Where stronger low-mid frequency absorption is needed, the 2" Acousti-Slab (50mm) provides significantly improved 250Hz performance.

Vocal booths and isolation rooms.
The Acousti-Slab 1" provides effective absorption at the frequencies most critical for vocal recording — 0.72 at 1kHz rising to 0.93 at 2kHz and 1.06 at 4kHz — reducing the coloration introduced by room reflections and producing a cleaner vocal capture. The unmounted panel format suits vocal booth installations where panels need to be fitted around irregular surfaces or trimmed to specific dimensions. The mounted-to-MDF option provides a ready-to-hang panel that can be positioned and repositioned using standard picture-hanging fixings.

Custom acoustic installations — fabric wrapping and bespoke sizing.
The unmounted Acousti-Slab is the base material for custom fabric-wrapped acoustic panels. The foam can be wrapped in any open-weave fabric — the fabric must allow air to pass through to maintain acoustic transparency — and stapled or adhered to a backing board to create a finished panel suited to residential, commercial, or studio environments. Custom sizes are available on request. The flat-face slab format provides a clean, even surface for fabric wrapping that profiled tiles do not.

Product Benefits

NRC 0.55 / Sound Absorption Class D — effective mid and high frequency absorption.
The 25mm foam core achieves NRC 0.55 (Class D), with absorption increasing from 0.20 at 250Hz to 1.06 at 4kHz. At 25mm, low-frequency absorption is limited — 0.20 at 250Hz — making this panel most effective at controlling mid and high frequency reflections. For rooms requiring stronger low-mid absorption, the 2" Acousti-Slab (50mm) is the appropriate upgrade within the range.

Unmounted and mounted-to-MDF formats.
The unmounted panel is bare foam suitable for direct adhesive fixing, trimming, or fabric wrapping. The mounted panel is pre-fixed to a 6mm MDF substrate. The mounted format is appropriate where a rigid, repositionable panel is required without the use of contact adhesive. Both formats are available in Mid Grey and Dark Grey.

Specification and compliance.
30kg/m³ foam density. Crib 5 and Schedule 1, Part 1 of the Furnishings and Furniture (Fire)(Safety) Regulations 1988 (amended 1989). Panel size 610mm × 1220mm × 25mm (2ft × 4ft × 1"). 0.74m² (8sqft) coverage per panel. 0.9kg unmounted, 4.5kg mounted. Mid Grey and Dark Grey. Custom sizes available on request. Manufactured in the UK and shipped uncompressed from stock.

Installation

Unmounted panels — adhesive fixing.
Apply Advanced Acoustics High Strength Contact Adhesive to both the back of the panel and the wall surface. Apply a band of adhesive around the perimeter and 50–75% coverage of the remaining surface area; repeat on the wall. Allow to become touch-dry before bringing surfaces together — contact adhesive bonds on contact, so position the panel carefully before pressing it to the wall. The adhesive is solvent-based; ensure adequate ventilation throughout installation.

Unmounted panels — demountable installation.
For a temporary or demountable installation, mount the panel onto 6mm MDF or plywood sheet and hang using D-rings and picture hooks. Four mirror plates per panel for ceiling-mounted installations. This allows panels to be removed and repositioned without damage to the wall surface.

Mounted-to-MDF panels.
Fix mirror plates to the wall at the appropriate centres using suitable fixings for the wall substrate. Hang the panel on the mirror plates. The mounted panel can be removed and rehung without tools.

Performance Data

1" Acousti-Slab Acoustic Foam Panel

Installing our acoustic foam panels is very simple. The first step to take is to work out your preferred layout of acoustic panels. Do a sketch on paper first to make sure that the layout looks right and you have enough acoustic foam and space for your planned design.

Once the acoustic panels are mounted to the wall or ceiling they are hard to remove so it is important to get the layout right before you begin. Once you have a sketch of the layout you plan you can then mark up the wall with the layout. You can either use pencil, masking tape or lasers to layout the design on the wall or ceiling.

When mounting the acoustic panels to the wall apply Advanced Acoustics Contact Adhesive to both the back of the panel and the mounting surface. There is no need to heavily cover the acoustic foam or wall with adhesive, a band of adhesive around the perimeter of the tile along with 50% - 75% coverage of the rest of the acoustic panel will be fine. Use the same equivalent amount on the wall. Avoid overspray on the tile and the wall so that adhesive can’t be seen when the panels are in place. Masking Tape on the wall will help with this. If you do get webbing overspray on the foam panel, don’t touch it, allow it to dry, in most cases you will be able to peel the adhesive off.

The adhesive we supply is solvent based so we recommend that you keep all doors of the room and any windows open whilst completing the installation.

If you prefer to have a more temporary installation of acoustic panels there is the option to have the panels pre-mounted onto 6mm MDF. This will enable you to hang the panels on the wall using a D-Ring (not supplied) and picture hook for a damage free installation. If fitting them to a ceiling then 4 mirror plates (not supplied) would be required.
