Knauf Rocksilk® RS60 Rock Mineral Wool Slabs | 600mm x 1200mm | 25mm / 50mm / 100mm
Knauf Rocksilk® RS60 is a high-performance rock mineral wool slab designed for projects that need reliable acoustic absorption, thermal insulation, and fire protection, all from one product. It is non-combustible and achieves Euroclass A1 reaction to fire classification, with a melting temperature of over 1000°C.
RS60 is manufactured using Knauf’s plant-based binder, ECOSE® Technology. Its mineral wool structure absorbs sound energy within wall, floor and ceiling cavities. Unlike a mass barrier such as MLV, mineral wool provides cavity absorption rather than replacing the solid barrier layers. These materials perform complementary roles within an acoustic build-up.
Three thickness options are available: 25mm, 50mm and 100mm. Choose the thickness and grade required by the assembly specification and available cavity depth.

Applications
- Internal walls and partitions — installed within timber or light steel frame partition cavities to provide sound absorption as part of the complete wall assembly. Select the thickness to suit the cavity and specified build-up.
- Internal and separating floors — fitted within floor cavities to absorb sound energy within the void. Use alongside the deck, ceiling, sealing and isolation components required by the floor specification.
- Timber frame and light steel frame walls — suitable for cavity insulation in framed wall construction where acoustic absorption, thermal insulation and non-combustible insulation are required.
- Ground floors — suitable for specified floor insulation build-ups where thermal insulation and acoustic absorption are required.
- Pitched roofs at rafter level — fitted within the specified roof build-up to provide insulation and sound absorption. Maintain any ventilation spaces required by the roof design.
- Fabrication and general build-ups — suitable for fabricated assemblies and other specified applications requiring rock mineral wool slabs. Confirm the required grade and thickness before substituting into an existing design.
Product Benefits
- Euroclass A1 — non-combustible. RS60 achieves Euroclass A1 reaction to fire classification and has a melting temperature above 1000°C. The insulation’s classification does not establish the fire-resistance rating of the complete wall, floor or roof assembly.
- Acoustic, thermal and fire properties in one slab. RS60 combines cavity sound absorption, thermal insulation and non-combustibility, allowing these requirements to be addressed with one insulation product where specified.
- Sound absorption within the cavity. The fibrous mineral wool structure absorbs sound energy within the build-up. It complements the mass and isolation provided by other acoustic components rather than replacing them.
- 600mm x 1200mm slab format. Slabs can be cut to suit the actual clear dimensions between framing members. Measure the opening rather than assuming the clear gap is the same as the stud or joist centre spacing.
- Three thickness options. Choose from 25mm, 50mm and 100mm to suit the specified cavity detail. Select the appropriate thickness without forcing a thicker slab into a shallower space.
- ECOSE® Technology plant-based binder. Manufactured using Knauf’s plant-based binder technology.
- Multi-application insulation. Listed applications include ground floors, internal and separating floors, pitched roofs, internal partitions, timber frame walls, light steel frame walls and fabrication build-ups.
Installation
Follow the manufacturer’s installation guidance and the specification for the complete wall, floor or roof assembly. Measure the actual clear cavity dimensions and cut slabs to fit, using a suitable insulation knife and straightedge.
Fit the insulation without gaps between slabs or around framing members, and avoid forcing thicker slabs into a shallower cavity. Maintain any air spaces or ventilation paths required by the assembly design.
Use appropriate protective equipment when cutting and handling mineral wool, following the manufacturer’s handling instructions. Complete the specified board layers, acoustic sealing and isolation details; cavity insulation alone is not a complete soundproofing system.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will mineral wool on its own stop noise through my wall?
Mineral wool absorbs sound within the cavity; it does not replace the solid barrier or isolation layers. It is a component of the wall or floor assembly, not a substitute for plasterboard, sealing or decoupling.
Should I choose RS60 because it must soundproof better than RS45?
Do not assume the product designation alone predicts the result in your wall. Choose the grade specified for the complete assembly. Where no grade has been specified, contact us with the construction and noise problem so the choice can be assessed before ordering.
Can I squeeze 100mm slabs into a shallower cavity for better performance?
Choose a thickness that fits the intended cavity detail without forcing it into place. More material is not automatically better when it changes the specified installation. Measure the available depth before selecting the thickness.
Can I keep the insulation already in the wall?
Possibly, but first identify the material, thickness and condition, and whether the cavity has gaps. Do not buy replacement slabs solely because the existing insulation is unfamiliar; compare it with the requirements of the proposed acoustic assembly.
