Knauf Soundshield Plus is a high-density acoustic plasterboard manufactured with a tuned gypsum core and increased mass to deliver enhanced sound attenuation compared to standard plasterboard. The additional mass increases the surface weight of the wall or ceiling assembly, requiring significantly more energy to set the structure into vibration and transmit sound through it — improving both airborne sound reduction and the overall acoustic performance of the build-up.

Soundshield Plus is used as the finish layer in acoustic wall and ceiling assemblies, typically fixed to MuteClip and channel systems, independent frames, or directly to studwork where a higher-performance board is specified. It also provides excellent fire resistance. Each sheet measures 1200 × 2400mm with a tapered edge for jointing. Minimum order quantity: 10 sheets.

Applications

• Decoupled ceiling systems — fix to MuteClip Channel as the finish layer in a clip and channel acoustic ceiling assembly. The higher mass of Soundshield Plus compared to standard plasterboard increases the sound reduction performance of the decoupled system, particularly for airborne noise.
• Acoustic stud walls and partitions — use as the finish board on acoustic stud wall assemblies where enhanced sound attenuation is required. Can be used in single or double layer configurations depending on the performance specification.
• Direct fix to masonry — suitable for direct bonding to masonry walls using acoustic adhesive where a higher-mass finish layer is required without a full independent frame.
• Fire-rated assemblies — Soundshield Plus provides excellent fire resistance alongside its acoustic performance, making it suitable for assemblies where both acoustic and fire specifications must be met.

Product Benefits

• High-density tuned core — increased surface mass. The higher mass of Soundshield Plus compared to standard plasterboard increases the energy required to vibrate the structure, improving airborne sound reduction across the assembly. At 33.12kg per sheet, the 12.5mm board is the lighter option and is suited to assemblies where a marginal reduction in build-up thickness is required.
• Tapered edge — suitable for jointing. The tapered edge profile allows standard jointing tape and compound to be used, producing a flush, paintable finish consistent with standard plasterboard installation practice.
• Excellent fire resistance. Provides fire resistance performance alongside acoustic attenuation — suitable for assemblies where both properties are specified.
• 1200 × 2400mm sheet size — 2.88m² per sheet. Standard sheet size compatible with typical stud and joist centres.

Installation

Fix to MuteClip Channel, metal or timber studwork, or masonry using appropriate fixings or adhesive per the assembly specification. Stagger board joints and ensure no board makes direct contact with the surrounding structure in decoupled assemblies — any contact creates a sound bridge and reduces performance. Tape and joint all seams. Seal all perimeter gaps with AC95 Acoustic Sealant.
