The Advanced Acoustics Sawtooth 12" is a 40mm open-cell polyurethane acoustic foam tile in a precision CNC-cut sawtooth profile, measuring 305 × 305mm. The tile achieves NRC 0.60 (Sound Absorption Class D), providing effective absorption across the mid and high frequency range — the frequencies most responsible for flutter echo and reverberation in recording and broadcast environments. Each pack contains 24 tiles, covering 2.23m² (24ft²) of wall or ceiling surface.

The 40mm sawtooth profile delivers the same acoustic performance as the Wedge 12" at the same price point — the choice between them is aesthetic. Absorption increases progressively with frequency: 0.25 at 250Hz, 0.47 at 500Hz, 0.69 at 1kHz, 1.00 at 2kHz, and 1.19 at 4kHz — making the Sawtooth 12" most effective at controlling the high-frequency reflections and flutter echo that are the primary acoustic problem in podcast studios, vocal booths, and broadcast environments. Podcast and broadcast studios require effective control of high-frequency reflections and flutter echo to produce clean, clear microphone recordings without the room sound that characterises untreated spaces. The 40mm Sawtooth 12" provides strong absorption from 1kHz upward — 0.69 at 1kHz, 1.00 at 2kHz, 1.19 at 4kHz — targeting the frequency range most responsible for the harsh, reflective quality of untreated rooms. Vocal booths and isolation rooms.
Vocal booths require effective high-frequency absorption to prevent the tight, boxy sound caused by excessive reflections in a small enclosed space. The Sawtooth 12" provides effective absorption at the frequencies most critical for vocal recording — 1kHz and above — reducing the coloration introduced by room reflections and producing a cleaner vocal capture. The 40mm profile is well suited to vocal booths where wall space is limited and a thinner tile is preferred to maximise usable room volume.

Home studios and recording spaces — entry-level acoustic treatment.
For home studios where the primary acoustic problem is high-frequency flutter echo and reverberation rather than low-frequency room modes, the Sawtooth 12" provides effective treatment at a lower cost per m² than thicker profiles. The sawtooth profile produces a more structured, geometric wall pattern than the classic wedge, making it a practical choice for home studio environments where the visual result of the installation is a consideration alongside performance. Install on the primary reflection points — side walls, rear wall, and ceiling — to achieve even absorption coverage. Where low-frequency reverberation is also a problem, the 75mm Wedge PRO provides significantly better low-frequency performance (0.57 at 250Hz versus 0.25 for the Sawtooth 12").

Rehearsal rooms and live rooms — high-frequency control.
Rehearsal rooms benefit from controlled high-frequency reverberation to reduce the build-up of reflected sound energy that makes it difficult for musicians to hear each other clearly. The Sawtooth 12" provides effective absorption at the higher frequencies most responsible for this build-up. The large coverage per pack makes it efficient to treat the wall areas of a rehearsal room at a lower cost per m² than thicker profiles.

Mixing and mastering rooms — supplementary high-frequency treatment.

Each tile is cut using CNC machinery to ensure consistent dimensions across every tile in the pack. The sawtooth profile produces a structured, geometric pattern when tiles are installed edge to edge, and can be installed in alternating orientations to create an interlocking zigzag effect across the wall or ceiling surface. Consistent tile dimensions ensure accurate alignment without adjustment during installation.

High-density polyurethane foam — 30kg/m³, fire rated.
The foam core is manufactured at 30kg/m³ density, providing greater structural integrity and longer service life than lower-density acoustic foam. Higher density foam maintains its shape and acoustic performance over time without the compression and degradation that affects lower-density products. The foam meets Crib 5 and Schedule 1, Part 1 of the Furnishings and Furniture (Fire)(Safety) Regulations 1988 (amended 1989).

Installation

Plan the tile layout before beginning installation. Sketch the intended pattern on paper and mark the layout on the wall or ceiling surface using pencil, masking tape, or a laser level. Distribute tiles evenly across the treatment area rather than concentrating them in a single large cluster; even distribution provides more consistent absorption coverage across the room.

Apply Advanced Acoustics Contact Adhesive to both the back of the tile and the mounting surface. Apply a band of adhesive around the perimeter of the tile and 50–75% coverage of the remaining surface area; repeat the equivalent coverage on the wall. Allow the adhesive to become touch-dry before bringing the surfaces together — contact adhesive bonds on contact, so position the tile carefully before pressing it to the wall. Avoid overspray onto the tile face or surrounding wall surface; use masking tape on the wall to protect adjacent areas. If adhesive webbing contacts the tile face, allow it to dry fully before attempting to remove it — in most cases it can be peeled away cleanly once dry. The adhesive is solvent-based. Ensure adequate ventilation throughout the installation — keep doors and windows open.

For a temporary or demountable installation, mount tiles onto 6mm MDF or plywood sheet to create panels, then hang the panels using D-rings and picture hooks. For ceiling-mounted panels, use four mirror plates per panel. This approach allows panels to be removed and repositioned without damage to the wall or ceiling surface.

12” Sawtooth Acoustic Tile Calculator

Notes: For Control Rooms it is vital that the wall that has the control desk placed on it is entered as the Room Width even if this is the longest wall. Available Corners refers to the amount of wall to wall corners that are available for bass traps. There must be at least 350mm of free space on either wall for it to qualify.
Installing our acoustic foam tiles is very simple. The first step to take is to work out your preferred layout of acoustic tiles. Do a sketch on paper first to make sure that the layout looks right and you have enough acoustic foam and space for your planned design. It is best to have small to medium sized clusters of acoustic foam tiles evenly distributed as opposed to one huge cluster of tiles in the middle of a wall.

Once the acoustic tiles are mounted to the wall or ceiling they are hard to remove so it is important to get the layout right before you begin. Once you have a sketch of the layout you plan you can then mark up the wall with the layout. You can either use pencil, masking tape or lasers to layout the design on the wall or ceiling.

When mounting the acoustic tiles to the wall apply Advanced Acoustics Contact Adhesive to both the back of the tile and the mounting surface. There is no need to heavily cover the acoustic foam or wall with adhesive, a band of adhesive around the perimeter of the tile along with 50% - 75% coverage of the rest of the tile will be fine. Use the same equivalent amount on the wall. Avoid overspray on the tile and the wall so that adhesive can’t be seen when the tiles are in place. Masking Tape on the wall will help with this. If you do get webbing overspray on the tile, don’t touch it, allow it to dry, in most cases you will be able to peel the adhesive off.

The adhesive we supply is solvent based so we recommend that you keep all doors of the room and any windows open whilst completing the installation.

If you prefer to have a more temporary installation of acoustic tiles you can mount the tiles onto 6mm MDF or ply to create panels of acoustic tiles. These panels can then be hung on the wall using a D-Ring and picture hook for a damage free installation. If fitting them to a ceiling then 4 mirror plates would be required.
