Advanced Acoustics Column4 1ft x 4ft Acoustic Foam Treatment Panel

The Advanced Acoustics Column4 is a 150mm open-cell polyurethane acoustic foam panel in a precision CNC-cut semi-circular profile, measuring 305mm × 1220mm (1ft × 4ft). The semi-circular cross-section gives the Column4 a curved surface area of 0.58m² against a wall footprint of 0.37m² — approximately 57% more acoustic surface area than a flat panel of the same footprint.

At 150mm, the Column4 is the deepest foam panel in the Advanced Acoustics range, providing substantially stronger low-frequency absorption than flat slab panels. The Column4 is the longer format in the column range; the Column2 (1ft × 2ft) is available where a shorter panel is required. Available in Mid Grey and Dark Grey. Manufactured in the UK.

Applications

Recording studios and home studios — deep low-frequency treatment.
The 150mm depth provides low-frequency absorption that flat 25–100mm panels cannot match. The 1ft × 4ft format covers a larger wall area per panel than the Column2, reducing the number of panels required to treat a given surface. Install at primary reflection points and wall-ceiling junctions where low-frequency energy accumulates. Use the Coverage Calculator to determine the number of panels required for your space.

Wall-height installations and vertical column treatments.
The 4ft length suits floor-to-ceiling or partial-height vertical installations where the full column profile can be displayed across a significant wall dimension. A row of Column4 panels installed vertically creates a continuous ribbed wall surface from floor to ceiling or mid-wall height, combining deep low-frequency absorption with a three-dimensional architectural aesthetic.

Custom and statement acoustic installations.
The Column4 can be fabric-wrapped in any open-weave material to create finished fabric column panels. The longer format suits large-format acoustic installations and pairs well with flat Acousti-Slab panels or 12" tiles to create mixed-format wall treatments. The semi-circular profile is visually distinctive from all flat panel formats in the range.

Product Benefits

150mm depth — deep low-frequency absorption.
The 150mm foam depth is the greatest of any panel in the Advanced Acoustics range. Foam absorption effectiveness increases with depth at lower frequencies — a 150mm panel addresses frequency ranges that 25–100mm flat panels treat partially or not at all. The Column4 is appropriate where deep broadband absorption, particularly at low-mid frequencies, is the primary acoustic requirement.

Semi-circular profile — increased surface area, distinctive visual result.
The CNC-cut semi-circular cross-section gives each panel a curved surface area of 0.58m² from a 0.37m² wall footprint — an increase of approximately 57% over a flat panel of equivalent dimensions. The profile produces a three-dimensional column form on the wall surface and can be fabric-wrapped for a finished appearance.

Specification and compliance.
30kg/m³ foam density. Crib 5 and Schedule 1, Part 1 of the Furnishings and Furniture (Fire)(Safety) Regulations 1988 (amended 1989). Panel size 305mm × 1220mm × 150mm (1ft × 4ft × 6"). 0.37m² (4sqft) footprint per panel. Mid Grey and Dark Grey. Manufactured in the UK and shipped uncompressed from stock.

Installation

Apply Advanced Acoustics High Strength Contact Adhesive to the flat rear face of the panel and the wall surface. Apply a band of adhesive around the perimeter of the flat face and 50–75% coverage of the remaining surface area; repeat on the wall. Allow to become touch-dry before bringing surfaces together — contact adhesive bonds on contact, so position the panel carefully before pressing it to the wall. The adhesive is solvent-based; ensure adequate ventilation throughout installation.

For a demountable installation, fix D-rings to the flat rear face of the panel and hang from picture hooks. This allows panels to be removed and repositioned without damage to the wall surface.

Installing our acoustic foam panels is very simple. The first step to take is to work out your preferred layout of acoustic panels. Do a sketch on paper first to make sure that the layout looks right and you have enough acoustic foam and space for your planned design.

Once the acoustic panels are mounted to the wall or ceiling they are hard to remove so it is important to get the layout right before you begin. Once you have a sketch of the layout you plan you can then mark up the wall with the layout. You can either use pencil, masking tape or lasers to layout the design on the wall or ceiling.

When mounting the acoustic panels to the wall apply Advanced Acoustics Contact Adhesive to both the back of the panel and the mounting surface. There is no need to heavily cover the acoustic foam or wall with adhesive, a band of adhesive around the perimeter of the tile along with 50% - 75% coverage of the rest of the acoustic panel will be fine. Use the same equivalent amount on the wall. Avoid overspray on the tile and the wall so that adhesive can’t be seen when the panels are in place. Masking Tape on the wall will help with this. If you do get webbing overspray on the foam panel, don’t touch it, allow it to dry, in most cases you will be able to peel the adhesive off.

The adhesive we supply is solvent based so we recommend that you keep all doors of the room and any windows open whilst completing the installation.

If you prefer to have a more temporary installation of acoustic panels you can mount the acoustic foam onto 6mm MDF or ply. These panels can then be hung on the wall using a D-Ring and picture hook for a damage free installation. If fitting them to a ceiling then 4 mirror plates would be required.
